Steelers may lose more in Tomlin misstep

07:27 AM ET 12.05 | Steelers coach Mike Tomlin was hit hard Wednesday, to the tune of $100,000, but the disciplinary actions may not be done yet. We still don't know the full punishment. The fine was expected, but the most interesting part of Wednesday's announcement concerns the potential loss of draft picks. "Because the conduct affected a play on the field, a modification or forfeiture of draft choices will be considered after the final order of the 2014 draft has been determined," the NFL said in a statement. ... It's interesting that the league does not plan to announce the exact draft-pick penalty at this stage. So what will the penalty be? The Steelers potentially could lose a late-round draft pick or see their picks somehow moved down in the draft. It would be a surprise if a high pick was taken away.

Such a pro wrestling move. I picture Jimmy "The Mouth of the South" Hart's managerial moves to help is "client" win.

Looks like Tomlin is trying to raise cash to pay his fine. "Legette"? Sounds "legit".

I agree with the idea that the organization has to also pay a penalty because Tomlin's ploy is an act of "management". Waiting until the draft order is set to assess the penalty suggests that the league may be thinking higher than a just late round pick. They could assess a 6th or 7th round today and it really wouldn't matter whether that pick was the 200th or 210th.

But don't they kind of suck this year?

If they take away a draft pick, that would work against their goal of "parity."

This isn't over... by a long shot.

Take some of the TV revenue the Steelers get from the league, and give it to the Ravens. Or, reduce the Steelers' cap space.

I'm for this... as they (along with the Maras) were part of the "let's teach Jerry and Danny a lesson" gang a few years ago.

They're making an example of of Tomlin.

Complete overkill. Unless this is about something else completely, which I suspect it may be.

AGREED! A taste of their own medicine is deserved.

Nah. When the Ravens play the Steelers, I want the Ravens to beat them at full strength, no excuses.

A lower round draft pick modification would do relatively little, anything more would probably be too much. But if they do get hit hard, I do like the idea of a rift between ownership and Tomlin.

December 5, 2013  08:58 AM ET

Another reason why the NFL is waiting before assessing a penalty on the organization could be that they want to see if the team fires Tomlin.

What, is there a cheating disease going around? Still, Tomlin's interference pales in relation to Jason Kidd's antics. The NBA should fire his **** pronto.
