Schaub getting his old job back

07:18 AM ET 12.06 | A season gone sideways went further in that direction Thursday night for the Texans. Gary Kubiak summed the whole thing up with one word: gutwrenching. The Texans' franchise record 11 consecutive losses. Seven straight defeats by seven points or less. A lost 2-11 season, with a fall that began with four Matt Schaub pick-sixes and reached another level of rock bottom Thursday, when the Texans were swept this season by the Jacksonville Jaguars. ... Asked if the 2012 Pro Bowl QB could reclaim his starting spot Dec. 15 at Indianapolis, Kubiak was noncommittal. But he also left the door open. "Yeah, we've got a lot of time," Kubiak said. "We've got a lot of time between now and the next time we play. We'll take a look at a lot of things." Then he continued to praise Schaub.

Reading the headline, I was thinking he was going back to work at IHOP. May be qualified there.

Texans better not waste this draft pick. Top pick should be traded back to some quarterback needy team for their pick and a 2nd rounder. Draft a safety with the 2nd rounder and a top-flight WR or DE with the first (ideally tade back twice to the middle of the draft).
Case isn't great and Schaub is mentally unstable out there but they're good enough to get you a Super Bowl if Case matures or Schaub keeps enough together for 12 games in a year. I don't see a single franchise quarterback beyond 6 years in this draft. Just another draft where quarterbacks are boosted by outrageously good coolege o-lines.

Andrew Luck has been OK, but not the world-beater everyone said he'd be. RG-III looks like a one-season wonder.

The real star of that draft was Russell Wilson, and he was drafted late. And, he only got the starting job in Seattle because Matt Flynn was such a pushover to beat out for the starting job.

Fans must be ecstatic.

Yeah...maybe about next April's draft.

I'm not sure we have enough evidence to draw any conclusions about Keenum. In recent years I would've said Schaub could be a game-manager for a SB winning team, but now I'm not so sure. I think he's lost confidence and it will be difficult to get it back.

I wonder who the next Head Coach is going to be?

I asked my Magic 8 Ball, but it said "Hot Clicks hazy, try again."

Must be due to bullying.

This is, what, the third misleading headline?

You mean May's draft.

Yep, more tinkering by Goodell.

Minus the hot Miss California, of course.

I was shocked to see just how pathetic and awful Schaub has become as a QB. Talk about a player and team that is totally checked out right now.

Houston has the Colts and Broncos coming up next... they'll stay checked out for those games too.

Their season finale is against Tennessee, so they have a chance of finishing at 3-13.

When the Colts went into rebuild mode, the Texans really thought their window was wide open. Damn thing got slammed shut in a hurry - didn't it?

December 6, 2013  09:32 AM ET

If by "old job" back they mean a back up QB on some team, then he has a better than 50/50 chance of getting it back.

Mayock nailed last night when he said Schaub was a gym rat that got by on modest talent and work ethic. Those skills have declined and he effort is not enough to cover that fact anymore.

December 6, 2013  09:33 AM ET

Schaub looked pretty good in last nights game, right up to the INT at the end that sealed the Texans fate,,,

If beating the Titans will cost them a chance at the 1st overall pick they'll definitely find a way of losing that game. They desperately need to fix the QB situation there and I doubt they'll take any chances and screw it up like the Jags have for themselves.

Nothing says they will not go stupid and use that pick on Johnny Football.
