05:34 PM ET 12.06 | With the Houston Texans struggling against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday night, head coach Gary Kubiak went to veteran Matt Schaub to provide a spark. Unfortunately, Schaub ended the game with an interception and big sack, as the Texans fell to Jacksonville. On Friday, the team announced that Kubiak has been fired as head coach, and they also made a decision on whether to roll with Schaub or Case Keenum as the Week 15 starter. When the Texans take the field against the Indianapolis Colts, they will be starting Keenum. It is a choice that the Texans have to make as they enter the final three games of the season, especially with the fact that they have a legitimate shot at holding the No. 1 pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. If the Texans want to make the best choice that they can, they will need to evaluate Keenum over the final few weeks to determine whether they want him back as the starter next season or if they will use their top pick on a player like Teddy Bridgewater of Louisville or Fresno State's Derek Carr.

Schaub threw a carless interception against the Jags that lost them the game. Seems like he hasn't learn yet smh. I like Keenum I think he can be a quality starting QB in the lg

Geno Smith, Eli Manning, and Carson Palmer have thrown "more careless interceptions" than Schaub.

Well that's because they had simply played more than Schaub has had this season

Geno has thrown 19 interceptions in 327 pass attempts.

Schaub has thrown 10 in 287 pass attempts.

Not a huge difference in playing time.

The Colts are gonna kill them!

Go back to his pick-six string, and he reminds me of a pitcher who's lost his edge, honestly.

Yep. Keep CSI on standby.

having once had a Carr, do the Texans double dip and go for Derek Carr? Bloodlines, will Derek do the duck and cover and run for his life too? Hummm.......interesting decision

December 6, 2013  11:15 PM ET

The Texans will probably select Clowney.

This will be fun to watch as morbid as it may become.

OK, but what do the do with this mess? The contract situation with Schaub they just gave him September 2012?

Ya cannot trade it and if ya cut him all that bonus money goes against your cap. If ya sit him he is yours.

9/9/2012: Signed a five-year, $66.15 million contract. The deal contains $29.15 million guaranteed -- a $17.5 million signing bonus and Schaub's base salaries in years one and two. 2013: $7.25 million, 2014: $10 million (+ $1 million in per-game roster bonuses), 2015: $12.5 million (+ $1 million in per-game roster bonuses), 2016: $14.5 million (+ $1 million in per-game roster bonuses), 2017: Free Agent
