Barry Bonds, the man with 762 homers and seven MVP awards, wants to play in the majors this season, which would mark his 23rd in the big leagues if he ever finds an employer. "Barry is not retiring. He's not considering retiring," Jeff Borris, the agent for slugger Barry Bonds, told the Daily News on Wednesday. "If Barry's skills had eroded and he wasn't able to compete at the major league level, he would take off his own jersey." Borris said Bonds is diligently working out at his home in Los Angeles, waiting for a general manager to come calling.

Barry should be allowed to play baseball.
The entire league is riddled with steroid and HGH abusers and the league is really not doing anything about the players that "are coming clean" to the press. The league is never going to stop cheating or gambling or drugs....because these are the things that people enjoy doing and IF you were making some $10 million a season then chances are you would be just as screwed-up as these pro athletes. Right?

February 21, 2008  06:40 AM ET

Bonds should be allowed to play absolutely. But what owner in his/her right mind would think this would be a good idea at this point?

February 21, 2008  06:55 AM ET

I hope that he cant even find a job in the minors. Its time to wake up basball if you hire him then give Pete Rose a job.

February 21, 2008  07:03 AM ET

Why wouldn't it be a good idea EastCioast Keith? Andy's playing, Miguel tejada is playing, etc.. Bonds numbers even playing hurt last season was better than most. I guess the extra baggage that has gone along with Bonds is hurting him now.

February 21, 2008  07:05 AM ET

Whalers- If baseball wakes up, then half the league shouoldn't be playing!

February 21, 2008  07:11 AM ET

I'm inclined to agree with EastCoastKeith on this one. With the "extra baggage" comment Keelee, I think you answered your own question. "Barry comes with baggage" and the residue of being treated like a "prima donna" in S.F. I'm not sure how that would play out in another "established" team's locker room... all things considered. Ability alone isn't, nor should it be the only concern in regards to players like Barry Bonds being in the situation he's in.

February 21, 2008  07:26 AM ET

Correct Keelee, but in this case its should start with "down with the king, death to the monarchy"

February 21, 2008  07:37 AM ET

He can play anywhere he wants. Just so it isn't the 2 teams I follow.
I think the problem with Bonds, perjury and steroids aside, is the perceived "cancer in the clubhouse" label.

February 21, 2008  07:45 AM ET

Does Mark Cuban own a baseball team yet? I'm sure he'd sign BB ...

February 21, 2008  08:18 AM ET

No one wants a washed up has been who can't play the field and can't hit unless he is on the juice. Simple as that. He's not willing to take a pay cut, all his teammates hate him. Signing him would be a disaster.

February 21, 2008  08:30 AM ET

He'll have a job picking up garbage on the side of the road with a stick and orange jump suit pretty soon.....Maybe his agent could get him a warm city with very little garbage.

February 21, 2008  08:46 AM ET

he should go to japan. i heard the Giants are offering him a 1-mil dollar contract i think thats equivaliant to like 2mil yens or wat ever u call them.

February 21, 2008  08:52 AM ET

No team is going to want the " stuff " that would go with having Bonds in the locker room. It would do as much harm as good. He is a victim of his own circumstances, but they are circumstances he created himself so you cannot feel sorry for the guy..Baseball can never move forward if he is still in the game..The mess will need to be cleaned up one player at a time...

February 21, 2008  08:52 AM ET

A $1 million dollar contract is $108,000,000 yen. That can buy a lot of steriods in Tokyo.

February 21, 2008  08:56 AM ET

Bonds should be playing ball, he is the greatest baseball player of all time. The most feared hitter ever, no matter how his name his been slandered recently. Racism is the reason Barry Bonds isn't on a major league roster, and any body that doesn't realize that is an idiot. Since baseball has been testing for performance enhancing drugs, Bonds has not failed a test. You can put his stats up against anyone in the game and he is still SUPERIOR! His indictment by the government is only a tool to keep him out of the league. Bud Selig and all of the baseball owners and officials who were completely aware of the steroid issue in baseball and got richer because of the increased attendance and television ratings should be fired and indicted. Don't make Bonds the scapegoat.

And how many other Blacks, hispanics, latino's, Asians etc are playing baseball? Enough with the crying racism with everything.

The reason he isn't on a roster is because he STINKS and he is a cancer to any team he joins. He can't play anymore since he stopped taking the juice.

I am, apparently, an idiot.
