Appetite for a Yanks-Reds swap

07:30 AM ET 12.09 | Might the Reds be motivated to move Homer Bailey? The Yankees still need starting pitching, and the addition of [Brett Gardner] would give the Reds additional time to develop Billy Hamilton. The Reds could replace Bailey by signing a free-agent starting pitcher with some of the money they might have used on Shin-Soo Choo. ... The Tigers will get Choo only if owner Mike Ilitch stages one of his patented last-second interventions. The possibility cannot be dismissed, but for the moment, the greater likelihood is that the team will find a right-handed platoon partner for Andy Dirks and also add another reliever. If Choo is indeed out of reach for the Tigers, then it's conceivable that he could land with either the Rangers or Mariners, with Nelson Cruz going to the other.

Got nothing for this convoluted fairy tale; but, I just read the Cardinals are about to add Tim McCarver to the broadcast team for 20 to 25 games next year - NO! I loved him as a player. I hate him as a broadcaster.

Wow what are these media people smoking to dream up these rumors ........ Yea the Reds are gonna trade there #1/#2 pitcher away for someone to play for a yr or so till Hamilton is ready.....anothr words sacrifice the season till Hamilton's ready, I don't think this has a chance in hel of going down.

He'll land somewhere eventually.

Don't know, not out of the question Bailey for gardener. I do think this though, the Yankees have little interest in Garza or any other free agent starter out there for what they are asking for as a contract.

Homer Bailey is the Reds #3 starter - not sure what kind of player he'd bring them in trade. No doubt Gardner, but is Gardner actually worth a solid #3 starter, who hasn't missed any (?) starts in 2 years, and appears to still be getting better? Not in my book.

The Reds really MUST hedge their bets on Hamilton in CF - he may never hit .200 in the majors. "If" they trade Phillips, they must get more than a one-year CF in return. BP was 5th in NL in RBI's - if he's traded, the Reds won't be able to score, and their defense would be greatly weakened.

If Phillips ( is not likely)is traded a ML 2B would have to be included. Uggla from the Braves does not quaify.
