07:33 AM ET 12.09 | When it comes to Art Briles, speculation is the name of the game. We've heard it all this season. Art Briles is going to coach at Texas next season. Art Briles signs an extension to stay at Waco for another 10 years. (The only fact of any of these.) Art Briles would turn Texas into the next Alabama-like dynasty. Art Briles won't leave the state of Texas for any reason whatsoever. Or would he? What if the Washington Redskins job opened up with the presumed firing of Mike Shanahan? Would the Baylor Bears head coach leave? CBS Sports discussed the proposition. 'I don't mind if you're going to make a coaching change because this thing has run its course,' one analyst said. 'But bringing in [Robert Griffin III's] coach from college, to me, that means he's helping make that decision. That's not a good thing.'

Then he should be getting a call any day now.

Mornin' BB. Well, there'd be a heckuva penalty for Briles breaking contract with Baylor. A well-paying gig in the NFL might be the easier cash cow.

I just don't see Briles being a fit in the NFL. But, I didn't see Kelly being a fit either.

Did not know that Harley, just doing my usual hit and run on the boards. Yea money factors into it but Bevo has lots of Cattle Barons who could write that check ya know.

Briles should move over to Austin. The Texas head coaching job is better than an NFL job.

Except for $$$$, the Baylor job is a better gig than UTx IMHO.

I agree with you and all the others that have said Briles would HATE dealing with all the LHN stuff, and the bigbuck boosters who like to be schmoozed. Baylor is pretty no-frills as far as that kinda stuff goes.

I could see him fitting in the NFL. Just not with the Redskins. Could not imagine Briles wanting to work for a guy like Dan Snyder.

It'd be worse working for Jerry Jones...but not by much.

I think it is for a guy like Briles. Much less pressure, new stadium, small laid back town.

Yeah, I probably have.

In all seriousness, the only reason to go to one of those high profile gigs is for the $$$$$. Why else would you want to put up with a bunch of zany, wealthy boosters/alumni.

exactly but it depends on what you are looking for as a coach. I can't see certain coaches, most coaches, that would take Waco over Austin but Briles is a Texas country boy.

December 9, 2013  10:25 AM ET

With these successful college coaches leaving for the NFL, it is always depends upon whether the number of recruiting violations has reached critical mass.
