The nation's best player (according to Bob Stoops)

07:34 AM ET 12.09 | Apart from watching a few games on television, Bob Stoops hasn't seen much of Alabama, and he certainly hasn't broken down a ton of tape. He has 24 days left until the Jan. 2 Sugar Bowl to fully prepare himself for everything the Crimson Tide has to offer. The Oklahoma coach, though, has seen more than enough of Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron to come to an immediate, definitive conclusion. "I think AJ McCarron's the best player in the country," Stoops said on Sunday's Sugar Bowl teleconference. "I really do. If I had a (Heisman) vote, that's who I'd vote for." ... Stoops bristled when he was asked about his controversial offseason comments about the SEC, but he had nothing but praise for the Crimson Tide, which he described as "just incredible" during a run of three national championships in four seasons.

Stoops did one of his best coaching jobs this year IMHO. OU is really not all that talented (at least per normal OU standards) or all that good. But he sure held it together and came through with 10-2 record this year. He deserves credit.

+1.

But he's got his hands full in the bowl game. THAT will either put the capper on an excellent season for him as a coach, or will further cement the BigGameBoob label.

Bama will kill 'em. Even the rusty cows beat 'em.

Unless Bama pulls one of their "we're down and don't really want to play" like they did against Utah.

I'm afraid it will be this....unless they pull it out of their ********

He's a very good player, but I don't see the need to label him as the best player. Why not just say he's done a very good job at Alabama and he's a player you can count on to not get in trouble and cause distraction for the team.

And Stoops wife says the best coach in America is Saban!

I said it before and I will say it again, "IMO McCarron is a good QB and will make a solid NFL QB.

I thought everybody said on here that Jordan Lynch was the most unstoppable force in college football.

Not everybody. But he may turn out to be good in the pros.

It seems to me the many of the successful NFL QBs come out of lower profile schools.
