06:04 PM ET 12.09 | It seems all but certain that the Washington Redskins will be parting ways with head coach Mike Shanahan after the season, but he may be looking to make a power move before he leaves. There are plenty of reports about the poor relationship between Shanahan and star quarterback Robert Griffin III and now Shanahan is saying he will consider shutting Griffin down for the rest of the year. At his Monday press conference, the Redskins head coach pointed to the amount of hits and sacks that Griffin has taken in recent weeks. Because of that, Shanahan says it may be smart to shut Griffin down because he needs to be healthy for next year. Where was that thought process near the end of his rookie season? Regardless, shutting down Griffin would likely upset owner Daniel Snyder, but it is a move that could work out for Washington. By shutting Griffin down for the final three weeks of the season, the team would get a good look at backup quarterback Kirk Cousins. By allowing Cousins to show off his talent, the team could watch his trade value soar and potentially get back some of the picks they lost in the trade for RG3.

I hope for the sake of the Redskin nation that Shanny doesn't make it to Sunday.

If any Shanahan action appears to benefit the 'Skins that he likely *won't* be coaching next year, in his mind it's an action he hasn't necessarily thought through.

OK, which owner will be "next owner up" to hire this fool?

On the other hand, wherever he goes, he will likely be able to pick up Cutler and trade a first-rounder for Marshall and recreate the mediocrity he had going in Denver back in 2008.

Hopefully they keep him till the end of the season.

If he sits RG3, that should be the final nail in his coffin.

I think DC is dysfunctional.

But I'm watching highlights of the Dallas D making McCown look like Kurt Warner and realize that DC doesn't own the patent on being dysfunctional.

Good point!! Shanahan may not be the best coach, but RGIII is just not playing well this year. His decision making is terrlble!!!

RGIII is damaged goods because he's a package deal with RGII. Reminds me of Tiger Woods and his father.
