Allen on borrowed time

07:23 AM ET 12.10 | Dennis Allen understands the NFL is a performance-based business, but he's not viewing his job through that prism. With two full years remaining on a four-year deal, Allen hasn't been given any assurance that he'll be back next year. Allen isn't actively looking for it. "Listen, that's not what my job is," Allen said Monday in a press conference. ... The Raiders would have to win a few more games for Allen to avoid notoriety. And, if history holds, Allen's fate might be in the tealeaves. At 8-21, Allen already has more losses over his first two seasons than any Raiders coach brought back for a third year. Tom Cable was 5-19 in one-plus seasons as coach -- he earned an interim title after Lane Kiffin was fired in 2008 -- and was retained for a third season. Jon Gruden was 16-16 over two seasons and was brought back.

Tell the wife to start packing

Ridiculous - he inherits a cap strapped MESS, gets handed Matt Flynn, and we're going to crucify him after two years......the Raiders will continue to stink!

December 10, 2013  08:56 AM ET

Don't know that he could have done much more than this with what he has. Let's get some better players in and see what he can do.

Until the Davis family has nothing to do with the team, the results will be the same.

The NFL is a quarterback driven league. If you don't have a good one, you go no where. I don't think any other coach would do any better with what he's had a at QB.

December 10, 2013  09:47 AM ET

How about he should have never been hired in the first place. Denver defense was a litle above average at best for a season, the Tebow one by the way. They clicked at the right time and made the playoffs. Other than that, defense was nothing special during his tenure and certaintly not enough to warrant Allen getting a HC gig. As a Raider fan, next season is an important one for GM. For first time in a while, ther will be money to improve the roster. You dont want a mediocre Coach overseeing this crucial stage so long story short, Allen needs to go for an experienced coach with some success.

Lovie is coming!

That's why Allen is so high on Pryor. He's hoping Pryor can save his arse by his running and passing.

You are correct sir.

If there's one NFL head coach that looks like Miley Cyrus, it's this guy.

December 10, 2013  01:42 PM ET

Message to Mark Davis, before you do decide to fire McKenzie and Allen, make sure there is a decent coach and GM out there to hire.

You may be able to lull the team of Shanahan and Kubiak to Oakland, if Shanahan is fired.

The team has only 4 players left on the team that were Raider #1 picks. Janikowski ( 1st round 2000), Darren McFadden ( 1st round 2008 ) , Steve Wisniewski (2nd round 2011), Tony Bergstrom (3rd round 2012), D.J. Haden ( 1st round 2013).

The Raiders at the beginning of the season had nearly $50 million in dead money under the salary cap.

It don't matter who coaches the Raiders, what is it another 3-4 years before they clear up Jamarcus Russell mess, salary cap space? They got to top dollars to sign any great talent, must make due with what they have, so in the mean time, sink or swim, enjoy raider football.

December 10, 2013  10:01 PM ET

Typo error: They have NO dollars to sign top talented players BINGO!

Absolutely right. The Raiders were a complete joke and he has them competetive again. You don't go from a joke to the super bowl in two seasons. It takes time and he has the Raiders going in the right direction which means the Raiders will fire him.
