07:29 AM ET 12.10 | The Knicks and Nets have been dueling for unfortunate headlines in New York, though each received a measure of good news this week, as both Deron Williams and Tyson Chandler appeared a step closer to returning. Chandler told reporters he was "very encouraged" by his latest developments. ... The team has struggled in [Chandler's] absence, losing 11 of 15 games. The Knicks' post defense, in particular, has been lacking without his imposing presence in the middle. The Knicks, who are 5-14, will face Cleveland on the road Tuesday, with the hope of rebounding from Sunday's humiliating 41-point loss to the Boston Celtics. "It's been tough for myself to watch from the sidelines," Chandler said. "The thing we have to understand, it's early in the season."

Missing chandler should not make a big difference on offense. NY should still be able to win some games w/ a superstar like Melo leading the way...

It's still pretty early in the year, and anything could happen, but I expect the Knicks to stay the coarse this year before blowing it all up. While it's a nice thought to think you could trade melo before the deadline, no one will bite on that contract

I fully expect Knicks and the Nets to make the playoffs. Have you looked at the Eastern Conf standings? It's pukable!!

He was better off staying in Dallas. At least he would've been able to make a run at another championship. That's what happens when you get greedy and chase the money son....

The only thing pretty about Knicks is Anucha Brown.

do you mean amare?cause if NY wants to move melo- they could

Yes he can be moved - depending on what you expect back. The market for Melo is not that good. If anything he's proved he's not good enough to get us a few wins in the weakest division of the league. How the hell do you call yourself a superstar if your team loses 9 straight games?

I dunno about this Melo guy... he's overrated like a wall street stock.

it's a moot point as I would highly doubt they'd move him unless he goes to them and says - 'I'm done'that beign said- if they don't see the writing on the wall....they are stupidthis team has no ability to get better for at minimum until 2015 summerat which time he will be THIRTYand their plan is to 'lock him up' into a kobe-like deal ?lolwith him starting to decline? and them not getting past the 2nd round while he was in his prime ?I guess that makes sense if you are dolan {S}so move him now- even it its for nickles on the dollar-get a pick or 2 back, get a kid or 2 back and just cut tieswith melo now- before it hand-cuffs you for 5 more years

Given how last 10 years sucked for Knicks having a perennial playoff team is better than...

If the Knicks lose to the Cavs, the teasing from the Cleveland contingent will be merciless.
