Weiss' confidence shaken

07:41 AM ET 12.10 | Stephen Weiss is back in South Florida again for the first time since becoming a member of the Red Wings, which seems as good a time as any to take stock of his season. "Confidence has been a struggle for him," Detroit coach Mike Babcock said. "I think when you go to a new place, just not being comfortable makes it hard on you. The reality is -- hockey is hockey." ... If Weiss is feeling the pressure of playing under serious expectations, he won't admit it. It does seems like something he needs to get adjusted to as he has only two goals and two assists in 25 games with Detroit. Weiss didn't find the scorecard in Florida's 2-1 win at Joe Louis Arena on Saturday. "Trying too hard sometimes can backfire on you," Weiss said. "I think that was the case early on."

gripping the stick too tight can have adverse effects.

I think the lack of assists is more telling than the lack of goals scored. He's just not getting involved on the offensive end.

Same as before ... just a little later on.

Absolutely right. They may have little differences in the system, but you're still playing hockey.

Funny how, when some guys get to the team they want, they play just great; Santorelli, Oduya - and others can't even do their skates up anymore - no matter how much moolah's thrown at them.

The other night Mickey reviewed one such transgression. Weiss passed it up to Abdelkader along the left boards entering the offensive zone and had an easy chance for a 2-on-1 break if Weiss would've crashed the net. Instead, Weiss trailed Abby along the boards, the D-man pinched Abby into the corner and no shot was taken.

He might be odd man out when Helm, Dats and Zetts get back, because they have to keep all the young dudes.
