07:32 AM ET 12.11 | For now, Wade Phillips waits. [Texans owner Bob McNair] said last week when he fired Gary Kubiak and promoted Phillips that the defensive coordinator would be interviewed. Anyone who knows Phillips understands how badly he wants the job. He won't campaign for it, but he didn't try to hide his interest when he met with the media after a light workout on Monday. "I think I have something to give," Phillips said. "If you look at the record, I have a lot to offer as a head coach, but that's for somebody else to decide." ... Then Phillips was asked if he would consider staying as the defensive coordinator under the new coach if he's passed up as Kubiak's replacement. "I would never say that, because then they wouldn't hire you as the head coach," Phillips said, laughing. "I'm not going to fall for that one."

Where else can you fail consistently and keep getting more chances other than the sports world?

He is a GOOD defensive coordinator and BAD head coach - stick with what you do well Wade...him and Norv Turner.....

He's the only person who thinks he can be a head coach, but he's not wrong in refusing to answer on whether or not he would stay if they pass him over. He has no control over whether or not the new coach would even want him to stay, so he just looks like a clown if he says yes and then gets fired.

If he doesn't get the head coaching job, he won't **** and complain. He'll just move on quietly to his next opportunity.

He's a little too passive to be a head coach, methinks

Now I have an image of Jerry Jones licking Wade Phillips head. Thanks a lot Bishop. No sleep for me tonight.

Something that seemed to be evident when he coached the Cowboys.

Here's a helpful tip: If you find Easter cupcakes out for sale now, stay away from them.

More likely he will be told to go. New guy will want his own guys.

Phillips will need some Milk of Amnesia.

If Wade is that eager to be in charge again, it sounds like he's had a few bottles already.

To his credit, that is the mentality a football coach needs to have to survive in the game. Without that resiliency, a coach would tap out the first time he was fired. Cam Cameron was bounced as HC in Miami after their 1-15 season, and yet he still wound up being the OC in Baltimore; when that didn't work out, he wound up as the OC at LSU, and he's given them the best offense they've had there in a while.

Wade's on record saying that he won't coach outside of Texas. I doubt he'd go back to Dallas, and the chances at Houston are slim and none.

aTm, anyone?

The only owner who would want Wade as a head coach is the owner who never wants to get to the Super Bowl.

December 11, 2013  04:57 PM ET

Wade Phillips has proven himself to be a horrible head coach. McNair would be an idiot to hire him for that job.
