Girardi confirms Cano tensions

07:40 AM ET 12.11 | As it turns out, friction between Robinson Cano and Joe Girardi this past season grew serious enough for the manager to approach his All-Star second baseman. As reported in Saturday's Post, Cano didn't like hitting second and preferred to bat third, a better production spot for a hitter in a walk year of his contract. "He didn't tell me he was unhappy, but there were things that I heard and I sat down and talked to him," Girardi said Tuesday at the Winter Meetings. "He said, 'OK, whatever you need.'" With Derek Jeter out, Girardi batted Cano second often across the first three months of the season. "I told Robbie, 'When I can get you back to third, I will get you back to third,'" Girardi said. "But right now I think you hitting second gives us the best chance to win."

But if he hit third he could have had more RBI's and then the Yankees would have valued him more and given him $300 million over 10 years instead of having to go into exile in Seattle. Or something...

The Cano bashing continues..........................

Obviously fictitious, when Joey Pitbull has an issue with a guy he calls him into the manager's office and proceeds to pummel him in the midsection until the problem is resolved.

There is NO bashing in this writeup. Girardi said you'll hit second - he hit second. And he said Cano responded with "whatever you need".......

How is that bashing?

now he will bat third!!!

But, was Robby being suspended over a tub of sulfuric acid when he said that?
Or being fitted for cement shoes?

They're making him out to be a selfish player, by even bringing it up.

If that was John Farrell saying the same crap about Ellsbury everybody would be saying another ex Red Sox being bashed on his way out the door.

I don't even know how this qualifies as 'tension.'

So - by just bringing up a potential point of contention is bashing....... we are SO soft skinned.

I'm just telling you what you would have heard from Yankee fans if the roles were reversed.

I am bemused by the hate/hate relationship between Botox and Yankmee fans.....

I give Girardi credit for sitting down with Cano, talking it out and explaining his rationale. Cano may have not been happy with the decision, but at least he walks away knowing why. Good managers in any field do that sort of thing when difficult or unpopular decisions are made.

I think it's much ado about nothing.

Joe heard that Robby was grumbling and arranged a meeting...he could tell that there was a problem and, apparently, resolved it the right way. I like to poke fun at him (like Maddon), but I think Joe knows what he's doing.

If George was still alive, that may have been the case ...
