Josh McCown earns NFC honors

04:58 PM ET 12.11 | Chicago Bears quarterback Josh McCown has done an excellent job since filling in for the injured Jay Cutler, and he continued his success on Monday Night Football with a spectacular performance that led the Bears to a blowout win over the Dallas Cowboys. McCown completed 27-of-36 passes for 348 yards and four touchdowns, which was enough to earn him the honor of NFC Offensive Player of the Week. It's certainly something that McCown deserves, but it is a bit surprising that the award didn't go to Philadelphia Eagles running back LeSean McCoy. In a snowy matchup against the Detroit Lions on Sunday, McCoy lit up the Lions defense to the tune of 217 yards and two touchdowns. Then again, this is a quarterback-driven league, so a 300+ yard, four-touchdown performance will catch the eyes of more people.

surprise, surprise, surprise! McCoy really should have one this thing and I'm sure Josh would be the first one to say so. Where did McCoy get that traction from, it was 8" of snow, dude was a beast. McCown had a great game too.

Awesome. It would have been cool if he and McCoy could have shared the award, though.

Well, Chicago's punter had zero chance to make special teams player of the week, so it all worked out.

I will say this as an argument for McCown over McCoy.

McCoy had a great quarter, having barely 50 yards through three quarters. McCown never let his team punt, being consistently good throughout the game.

Not much, but thought I'd throw that out there.

I'd heard that McCoy's jersey and shoes from Sunday's game were sent off to Canton. The HoF has no input into players of the week honors, but I figured that the jersey and shoes story would have tipped the week's honors to McCoy.

But yes, the only possession the Bears didn't score on ended with a kneel-down to end the game. That's good stuff, right there.

Also, I'd let Otis pick who's player of the week.

I consider Otis a great statesman here, and his opinions make more sense than many people's facts.

However, he still calls my team the Queens.

Therefore I'll let him decide if it should've gone to the QB who shredded the Dallas defense like Kurt Warner is his prime, or to MeSean McCoy, his least-favorite player.

Bye bye Cutler.

I won't bash on him completely, even after he leaves Chicago. Yes... he made questionable decisions with the ball, but he had three seasons where he had a pisspoor O-line "protecting" him and Mike Martz and Mike Tice as his play-callers. Not the optimal conditions for a QB to thrive in.

Fair enough. But who do you go with now, McCown or Head Case?

I go with McCown, and make plans for him to be the starter in 2014. Let Cutler go on his way in FA, and go after another QB in the draft or FA. I honestly think that with the line to protect him, McCown has two years left in the league. I trust Trestman and Phil Emery to find another QB in the draft or free agency.

Well deserved Josh!

Da Bears!

Good luck. Before this season, he had thrown 37 TD

Good luck. Before this season, he had thrown 37 TD's to 44 INT's in his career.

He's doing well now, in Trestman's system, with one of the better WR combos in the league, and Matt Forte as the all-purpose back. There's a lot of good chemistry happening within that offense. I would take a chance on keeping McCown around.

You risk pissing off Marshall if you let Cutler walk, Mel.

The thought had occurred to me. As I mentioned, I think there's a lot of good chemistry on that offense right now. I'd like to convince myself that Marshall can appreciate that.

But...

That was then. This is now.

Lovely job of building bridges, mending fences, finding common ground, etc.
