Suns want Clippers guard

With only second-round picks or cash (or both) to offer, the Suns are trying to pry 6-foot-6 guard Quinton Ross away from the Clippers. Sources with the team said players like Denver's Yakhouba Diawara and Seattle's Mickael Gelabale were now secondary on the list, leaving Ross as the main target with the deadline approaching.

The Suns really could use another athletic swingman. Diaw and Bell log a lot of minutes and having another one of those type players would keep them fresh come playoff time.

February 21, 2008  08:56 AM ET

I hope the deal does not happen.

February 21, 2008  09:08 AM ET

Quinton Ross is a decent player . . . .I gues . . .who ever see's them play unless you have league pass . . .

February 21, 2008  10:11 AM ET

Why would Clipper do that? Not that their bench is full of talents already...

February 21, 2008  10:18 AM ET

Why don't the Suns just play DJ Strawbarry more. He looked great last night in only 3 mins. He can defend, pass, and score. GO TERPS!

February 21, 2008  10:22 AM ET

tight@rse sarver got rid of james jones to save money now he could have come in handy
James Jones $2,904,000 now thats breaking the bank isnt it

lets see the suns get rid of kurt thomas with only one year left on his contract and 2 1st round picks, so the sonics take on i year of a bad salary and get 3 1st round picks out of it thanks to the suns and spurs

Spurs won't counter West trades
Posted: Thursday February 07, 2008 07:33AM ET
The NBA's second blockbuster trade in less than a week shook the Western Conference on
Wednesday. Don't expect it to be the catalyst that shakes the Spurs' locker room.
Though the Suns and Lakers trades obviously alter the complexion of the West, Spurs
coach Gregg Popovich says he doesn't expect them to alter his team's willingness to
make a counter trade one way or another.

San Antonio Express-News

hes bluffing they have expiring contracts to use
winkstrap | 02/07/08, 07:34 AM

I don't see them making moves.....
JTMeek | 02/07/08, 07:36 AM

the spurs need another key piece so they should be looking to package up a couple of
expiring contracts for real talent.

r.horry 3.6 million (exp)
f.elson 3.0 million (exp)
b.barry 5.5 million (exp)

teams are desperate for expiring contracts so this is a big chance to land a damn good
player to add to the big 3.
winkstrap | 02/07/08, 07:37 AM

The Spurs are still the best team in the league. Why do they need to trade?
Romo9 | 02/07/08, 10:00 AM

the spurs should be looking to upgrade the PF position with a starter with mobility as
duncan can play both PF and C with oberto coming off the bench
that would fix the spurs struggling front court obviously not duncan though
next season will be the time to bring in another shooter
winkstrap | 02/07/08, 10:09 AM

Winkstrap-
Dude, crappy teams are desperate for expiring contracts! Good teams want good players,
good luck unloading all your crappy old players. Spurs will be in the lottery within 2
seasons. You can take that to the freakin bank!!!!!!!!!!

San Antonio shopping Elson

The Spurs don't make many major moves, but they are looking to deal Francisco Elson.

Chicago Tribune

deal is done Barry, Elson and first round pick to seattle for Tim Thomas. the one guy
who really gives Duncan problems. Both of their contracts expire at the end of the
season as does Thomas. They got a better all around player in Thomas. Sacramento turned
down this deal at the last minute for Artest. Not sure how that would have worked out.
vaughn9 | 02/20/08, 07:48 PM

sorry ment Kurt Thomas

Q Ross plays great, Bruce Bowen type defense. I dont want this trade to happen.. But even if it did, dont think it would hinder the lakers too much.

February 21, 2008  12:11 PM ET

*because he would be used to guard Kobe.

February 21, 2008  01:20 PM ET

Again the Suns look to contend with the Lakers after last nite's loss. lt's just not gonna happen with the Suns. Their best shot at the title was probably last year and they either missed it or was cheated out of it. l'm not gonna say anything because l don't like either team that was involved. But they are trying to contend with the Lakers and Dallas and it's not working and time is ticking away to get a trade that will actually help them.

IT'S LOVELY IN LAKERLAND!

February 21, 2008  02:06 PM ET

We will trade Kendrid Perkins and "Big Baby' for Quinton Ross.

February 21, 2008  03:28 PM ET

TurcksDad is on target. the suns' defense has regressed this year. they need a defensive stopper and ross is intended to slow down kobe or josh howard, whoever they face first....

February 21, 2008  04:05 PM ET

Spurs defense just got stronger

February 21, 2008  04:48 PM ET

everyone in the west appears to be in win-now mode, but they are getting older doing it - kidd, shaq, stoudamire and kurt thomas; only the lakers got substantially better and they didnt even have to get older to do it...arejaydub has gotta be lovin life.....

YES INDEED!!! Went to the game the other nite vs Hawks. We had a FORTY-POINT LEAD IN THE FIRST HALF!!! I felt sorry for Bibby and Joe. To leave the WEST and play in the (L)EAST has got to be humbling. The last time I checked, ONLY FIVE TEAMS HAVE WINNING RECORDS IN THE (L)EAST. That's a shame. For competition's sake, maybe Stern better restructure the playoff format.

February 21, 2008  05:23 PM ET

ON BEHALF OF ALL OF US IN LAKERLAND AND FROM LAKER FANS WORLDWIDE, A VERY, SINCERE THANK YOU TO THE MEMPHIS GRIZZLIES ORGANIZATION. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

RIP CHICK HEARN. WE KNOW YOU'RE SMILING FROM UP ABOVE.

February 21, 2008  06:14 PM ET

it would be a great move but it aint going to happen,at least not for 2rd picks and some 3 mil

February 21, 2008  07:48 PM ET

they should take the other Q

Quentin Richardson

February 21, 2008  07:57 PM ET

Q.Richardson was a great fit on the Suns. And then he went to the Knicks and into the witness protection service. Joe Johnson fled too for more money. Then Marion is gone. As a Laker's fan, I don't see how we should fear the Suns anymore even when they have Shaq.
