07:34 AM ET 12.12 | The Masahiro Tanaka sweepstakes may get too rich for a number of franchises, but one of them isn't in the Bronx. It might be [Tanaka] or bust for the Yankees rotation. The Japanese sensation remains the Yankees' top choice to fill the remaining vacancy in their starting rotation this winter, but Major League Baseball and Nippon Professional Baseball have still not finalized a new agreement on the posting system. Add in the fact that the president of Tanaka's current team said Tuesday that it was no certainty the club would post Tanaka and his potential move to the Bronx appears to have hit several snags. That would leave the Yankees searching for another arm.

If he's as good as advertised, spend whatever it takes. Yankees don't have much left currently.

"Something or bust" means you're going to reach or get Something or die/exhaust all resources/go broke trying...it means there is no alternative to Something.
Serious FN mod failure.

It may be bust. Teams such as the Rangers, D Backs, and Cubs have money too. They'll at least drive the price up.I would like to see the Yanks with their **** hanging in the breeze again, just like on the Cano negotiations.

I can see the Dodgers, Mariners, Blue Jays and possibly the Mets getting involved as well.

Did you even pay attention to the Cano signing? The Yankees were very clear they weren't going over $175 million. They made their offer and he took another that paid him for 3 additional years. Not exactly being left hanging in the breeze. The let him go because his demands were too high.

Good morning all. What do we think of the possibility of home plate collisions being outlawed?

They don't have Yankee money. If it comes down to a bidding war, and the Yankees want Tanaka (or any other free agent badly enough), they will get him.

I'm sure they will, but it's gonna cost them a lot more than they originally thought.

I think it's a good idea, as long as they protect the runner as well.

At the time of the Matsuzaka signing, I was a Red Sox fan <slams junk in desk drawer as repentance>, and was all psyched. I happened to be in Kansas City for his MLB debut and went to the game. I'd bet there were more Japanese people in KC that day than in all other days in the history of the world combined.

I remember when Nomo pitched his first game for the Dodgers. I wasn't there but I watched it on TV. The place was crawling with reporters from Japan.

But we want to keep our players off the DL and uninjuredMaybe the NFL should switch to flag football so their players don't get injured. . .Pull up your knickers, Sally.

It's more like "We are paying the guys bookoo bucks and we want them to be playing baseball, not rehabbing a broken ankle".
