09:11 AM ET 12.14 | In a tersely worded statement, Notre Dame readmitted quarterback Everett Golson -- who sat out the 2013 season after committing an academic violation last spring that exiled him from the school for this semester -- in the first official step of Golson's journey back to the field. "Everett Golson was readmitted this afternoon to the University of Notre Dame," vice president for public affairs Paul Browne said in the release. Golson won't be able to practice with the team until Dec. 20, when the fall semester ends, but coach Brian Kelly said earlier this week Golson likely will not be part of the Irish's bowl preparations. Golson might join the team in New York.

Golson will be brought in late in the Pinstripe Bowl to save the day against Rutgers.

NO, I believe he would lose a year of that redshirt junior status for next year if he does play. Regardless, the boy has been working out hard at a $200 a day professional QB camp for the last few months. ND decided that was the best thing to help him make better academic decisions going forward. He has earned a Christmas mid term break. He has received absolution and all is forgiven. Praise the Dome.

can see golston coming out of the yankee stadium bullpen to save the game.

If he comes out wearing 42... that would be awesome

They can beat a lousy Rutgers team with Kelly at QB. I expect them to have Golson on the sidelines with his face in a book and a pencil wedged above his ear. Great PR.

"and for your punishment you must say 10 Hail Marys and hang out on the beach for 4 months honing your QB skills"

"In a tersely worded statement..." Anger much? (Hey Brian, you turd, *you* destroyed the Irish season.)

I wish the young man well. Now, he is going to have Kelly in his ear all the time. It takes some gonads to go back to a school where you cheated... the profs and co-eds all know you did. I suppose many of his "friends" will give him high-fives.

What that says about ND football is they can't find anybody to play QB.

Since he didn't attend school at all for the past semester, he isn't eligible to play at all, is he?

What that says about ND football I that nobody is above the academic law, even the starting QB. ND would not have been a four loss this year had they turned the other cheek on his transgression. Joke if you will but you know that most schools would have buried this internally. Bravo ND and bravo to Golson for accepting the responsibility and not taking the easy out by transferring.

Its a long and winding road of a story, that leads to Tommys door.

Could be eligible because the Fall semester ends on Dec.20 with final exams over. So technically it is then the second semester. Problem is they practice on the 22 and leave for NY on the 23rd.

If ND had a better bowl game later in the year, then it was a possibility. As it is he may not be eligible to even go to the game with the team. I read Kelly is checking on that for compliance....

Matters not this year.

Not always true. Here in the SEC one cannot commit an academic violation when academic classes are not required. Therefore no suspension. When there is a violation of, "Team Rules," a player sits out a quarter against the Kent State Golden Flashes or the like.

I wonder how much New York people are willing to pay for his autograph? Could be a good investment!?!
