Has J.R. Smith forgotten how to score?

09:46 AM ET 12.15 | J.R. Smith got a rich contract over the offseason because of his instant offense and high-octane jump shot. But he's a non-factor these days and looks confused about his role while searching for his jump shot. He sounded silly after Friday night's loss in Boston when he said: "I took it upon myself to sacrifice my shot to get other guys going." Smith sounded as if he were trying to implement his own strategy to help the Knicks develop some type of winning mojo. That was a no-no with Woodson, who made it clear he doesn't want Smith to go from scorer to distributer. "I need him to score, and I think he knows that," Mike Woodson said before Saturday's game. If you didn't know any better, you'd think Smith has forgotten how to score. He's hesitant, unsure of himself and quickly passes up shots he once buried. "As long as I'm out there I've got to contribute to the team," said Smith, who has made just nine of his past 36 field goals. "If I can't contribute I shouldn't be out there."

J.R. Smith???s self-imposed freeze-out during Friday???s loss to the Boston Celtics came one day after the guard and head coach Mike Woodson exchanged heated words following Wednesday???s win over the Chicago Bulls, the Daily News has learned. According to a team source, Woodson admonished Smith for poor shot selection during the Bulls game and then became upset over something Smith said on the bench. Woodson waited until after the game to express his disappointment with Smith???s attitude and reminded the volatile shooting guard that he???s been his strongest advocate for the past two seasons. New York Daily News???Mike said that after all I???ve done for you I can???t have you talking back to me like that,??? the source claimed. The same source added that Smith made a lewd comment that angered Woodson. During Thursday???s practice, Woodson used the game film from the win over the Bulls to demonstrate moments when Smith forced shots when he could have passed. Smith???s response to Woodson???s coaching lesson was to attempt one shot in 27 minutes against the Boston Celtics

Woooo! He learned from Kobe years ago. Maybe that's what they meant when they're trying to say that he didn't quit? He passed a lot more to prove a

Doc Pepper !!!I was wondering if anyone would make the connection between JR and Kobe. This prima donna behavior by JR is EXACTLY the same behavior we saw from Kobe some years ago, before they landed Pau.In both cases, the player would jack up dozens of shots with a low success rate, then refuse to shoot at all when admonished by the coach. And then you have fans like DJ saying that the Knicks should trade JR - when the Lakers did not trade Kobe.Too funny !!

You got it Bro! When JGB mentioned self-imposed freeze out on his shots it reminded me right away of kObe. I believe he even did that during the playoffs even when Pau was there. Good thing the other players stepped up.
