10:42 AM ET 12.15 | The way the Josh Freeman fiasco has turned out, some people are beginning to wonder whether the signing of the former Tampa Bay QB at the same time the Vikings announced their private seat licensing plans was merely coincidental or a slick attempt at marketing.

Or - maybe they had to see for themselves what Schiano already knew...

Kid ain't that good and is a locker room cancer.

No, saying you've just signed Jay Cutler would be slick marketing. Saying you just signed Freeman sure wouldn't sway me.

Draft a QB and have Cassel mentor him. Cassel is the only QB signed for next season.

December 15, 2013  11:02 AM ET

And Cassel has had 2 pretty solid starts in a row.

December 15, 2013  11:03 AM ET

Yea, That's pretty slick alright.

Better have a really good one today for them to have a chance with AP and Gebhart both out...

Or they simply thought he was better than he actually is.

This is a QB who had 2 promising seasons within the previous 3 years. Desperate teams have given up a lot more for much less potential.

With the city providing roughly half the funds for new stadium, will the residents of Minneapolis get a 50% discount on all events? Or has the US Military conditioned the people to not only accept corporate welfare but to glorify it? Side bar: One benefit of a domed stadium is that you don't have to piss away millions on those stupid "fly overs".

As marketing campaigns go, signing a QB cut by a winless team is right up there with "new coke".

December 15, 2013  11:39 AM ET

I look at it as another reason GM Rick Spielman should be shown the door after the season ends.

Spot on. Only a legend in his own mind.

Leave Matt Flynn out of this

Agree 100%.

If Cousins has 3 decent to good games he may be the hottest QB acquistion in the offseason.

Neither one is worth much...

The best pick the Skins could get for Cousins might be a 2nd rounder from a desperate team...

Could be some truth to the story. Freeman makes a better decoy than he does a QB. Could be a Duck Dynasty someday.

December 15, 2013  01:22 PM ET

If they were counting on Freeman for marketing purposes, somebody in that department should be fired. The kid sucks. As bad as that team is, their marketing department should really hype the opposing team's best players. That would be the best way for the Vikings to sell tickets. Their team play sure won't.

December 15, 2013  03:07 PM ET

Well, they sure as heck didn't sign him to win football games.
