07:16 PM ET 12.15 | Nick Diaz is currently enjoying the life of being a retired fighter, but fans were hoping that he would return to the octagon for a rematch with Carlos Condit, now that the UFC welterweight title picture is wide open following the announcement that Georges St-Pierre has vacated the belt. UFC President Dana White attempted to please the fans and schedule Diaz vs. Condit II at UFC 171, but White says that Diaz turned down the offer. While Condit accepted the fight immediately, Diaz seems to want some additional time off before he commits to a return. However, don't assume that Diaz will remain retired, because White added that the former interim title contender "could" return to the UFC in May.

Scared?

Scared? Scarred, maybe, but never scared, homey; trust this. Nick has said for a long time that, as much as he "loves to fight," it is very difficult to do (colossal understatement). Getting yourself mentally and physically ready to crush (or get crushed by) an elite fighter- let's all be honest, that's basically why we're all behind desks tapping at keyboards right now instead of undergoing the punishment of high-level training to which elite fighters submit.
I believe (based on what I've seen and heard from Nick himself) that is why he has to demonize his opponents in his own mind. He's just not a mean guy at heart, so he has to create a scenario in his head that makes his opponent worthy of his wrath. It's all show, and it's all done for his own psyche. If you think Nick says and does these things to make Dana more money, you clearly haven't been paying attention to his motivations. If you want to know how hard it is to be a fighter in the UFC, think about it this way: it is much, much harder- both mentally and physically- than being a triathlete. Ouch.
