Unhappy owner is a bad sign for Rex

07:27 AM ET 12.16 | Here it comes, the future, and it may not be pretty for Rex Ryan and Gang Green. The end is inevitable now, the end to a most improbable playoff dream for a team that turned into nothing more than a cruel tease. And the magic number now for [Ryan] is 2. His Rexpiration date has drawn perilously closer. A source described Jets owner Woody Johnson this way to The Post after Panthers 30, Jets 20: "Not happy." Not good for Rex. Two more losses now in the last two games after three straight years out of the playoff -- Ravens over Lions on Monday night would cinch it -- will leave Ryan dangling at the edge of the cliff on Woody Mountain, at the mercy of John Idzik, the rookie general manager forced to inherit him. Johnson loved Ryan enough to give him a mulligan this season.

"Rexpiration date" -- and the media doesn't understand why it is hated.

QUOTE(#6):

This season was a transition year. Most jet fans just wanted to see if we had a qb And wait out the big contracts of mark and Holmes. If Rex is fired, that's fine, his teams have not have good ends of the season the last 3 years and that IS on the coach. But in fairness, he actually may have over achieved this year with an inconsistent rookie qbBottom line is this franchise needs a legit qb

So True! I would love to see them trade for Cousins or move up and take a decent QB in the draft, using Geno as ammo (what ammo he is at this point). Looks like the QB crop is better this year than last and they have a decent shot at getting someone solid. McCarron, Manziel, Lynch, Bridgewater. Depends on whether they want to spend another year building that spot again or stick with Geno and build around him. Tough choice. Geno has the tools, just needs to mature in that spot.

There are a lot of unhappy owners. ;-)

The only thing keeping Woody from putting his boot in Rex's **** is the fact that Rex would probably enjoy it

If it's done tastefully I can't see why not giving him another year.

Rex needs to go back to being a D coordinator like his brother... same this his daddy Buddy should have stayed doing. Don't get above your raising!

Somebody is going to get an awesome DC next year unless one of the networks strike first.

December 16, 2013  09:21 AM ET

Rex will find another Job!

Get a Woody Tattoo, not a tattoo on your Woody Rex, and it can be worked out..

QUOTE(#12):

Geno has the physical tools-but I haven't seen any maturation mentally.granted he is a rookie-I have no problem letting him (or simms) compete next year-but the Jets MUST bring in at minimum a veteran that can be a game manager as the #1 problem with jet QB's since pennington- is that they have all been inconsistent and turnover proneas for the draft?I wouldn't take a qb high.they have too many other needs- including a legit WRsome of the top Qbs in the league are not 1st round pick- and unless we are talking about an andre luck 'can't miss' prospect-which I don't believe there are any....they need to take a guy later

I agree, someone to catch a ball if it's thrown close and maybe a little help on the O and D Lines. Then a QB if one is available.
