Lakers after Shumpert

07:32 AM ET 12.16 | Superstar Kobe Bryant may be back, but that hasn't stopped his franchise from inquiring about other backcourt options. The Lakers recently called the Knicks to express their interest in Iman Shumpert, according to sources close to the situation. No trade is imminent, and sources say the Lakers' call was more about doing their due diligence; it's well-known Shumpert is available. The Lakers are unlikely to make a deal before the end of their current four-game trip, which concludes Tuesday night in Memphis. But with Steve Blake, who is expected to miss at least six weeks with an elbow injury, joining point guards Steve Nash and Jordan Farmar on the injured list, the Lakers could be interested in strengthening their backcourt.

Kobe Bryant 'being back' has nothing to do with this.....the Lakers are looking at Shumpert for the PG position......the position he played at G.Tech.

He's 23 years old and is very versatile.

The potential is there to be an all-star.....but he needs to be in the 'right' type of system.

BTW......any system that Carmelo is a part of, ain't the 'right' system.

That isn't much different in a "KoMe" system. Watch him shoot.

Kinda contradicted yourself there. Anyways, who would Kobe trade for Shump? Maybe Gasol?

That is the plan, to get into the lottery draft.

Latest rumor was Gasol and someone for Chandler, Shumpert, and Smith. Just what we need...another injury and another headcase.

Bring it down from where? We are a 1st round out.CP3 and Melo both need to get over the hump. He's a legit scoring option. Blake is a glorified trapeze artist.

With Melo, it's not a given anymore...

I agree. But, maybe Melo makes all the others worse.

He shows flashes.Plus, he's on his rookie deal.He would be a solid acquisition for the right price.

His rookie year he average almost 10 a game. Been going down since then. (slightly over 6 a game) Should be the last year of his rookie deal too.

It would be a great move for LAL, but what do we have to give besides Kobe and gasol that other teams would want? Xavier Henry? Money? Not many options to give value back in exchange for shump. No one wants the ghost of Steve Nash and people didn't want blake when he was healthy.
