07:38 AM ET 12.16 | With Chris Perez gone, Cleveland may have found his replacement. [The Indians] are on the verge of signing right-handed reliever John Axford, who was non-tendered by the St. Louis Cardinals, a source said Sunday. The 30-year-old Axford pitched 54 2/3 innings in 2013 for the Milwaukee Brewers, but he was removed from the closer role after six blown saves and was traded to the Cardinals in August. In 10 1/3 regular-season innings for St. Louis, Axford gave up two earned runs, walked three and struck out 11 with a 1.74 ERA. Axford was called upon six times in the postseason, striking out four and giving up one earned run against the Pittsburgh Pirates and Los Angeles Dodgers. In two World Series appearances, he didn't allow a hit and struck out five in 2 1/3 innings.

Jeez, this guy gave up 10HRs in under 55 innings with the Brews last season...even in his nice little stretch with the Cards, he had 14 baserunners in just over 10 innings. He always gets a lot of strikeouts, but his other numbers since '11 are pretty ugly.
Guys with his stuff are always going to get another chance somewhere, though.

The Tribe needs to have plan B in place because of the past track record of Axford.

The funny part of this is the number one most similar pitcher to Axford at Baseball Reference - Chris Perez.

This guy had three great seasons with the Brewers. He was fine with the Cards. He's worth a chance as far as I'm concerned.

QUOTE(#5):

Maybe Axford is a plan B.

You said he was Canadian, would that make him plan Ay'?
