'Complicated' three-way deal coming

07:31 AM ET 12.16 | A ticking clock in Houston isn't counting down to Christmas. With just five shopping days remaining, the contract of his unhappy, defensive-minded Turkish center is burning a hole in Rockets general manager Daryl Morey's pocket. The winter closeout sale, his own version of the trade deadline, begins Sunday. And general managers who might be interested in trading for Omer Asik, or being a part of a deal built around him, have been told Morey is ready to deal. ... Morey would not discuss his plans, but a person with knowledge of the Rockets' thinking said Morey set his Dec. 19 deadline in part because he knows he has an offer he is willing to take. Though things can change several times by Thursday, that individual said "it very likely will be a pretty complicated, three-way deal. There are a lot of moving parts."

If they were smart, they would've done this right after signing D.Howard.

I know the guy has value but it seems like it is a lot less than the Rockets think....I mean they HAVE to trade him and every team knows it.....

That doesn't diminish Asik's value, it does diminish Houston's leverage.

Well.....the Rockets signed him to a 'sloppy' contract.....and then they signed Howard.

Now, Asik's contract is gonna bite them in the butt. They'll be forced to take less than what he's worth, talent-wise.....and they will have to pay (salary-wise) too much for it....if only for the short-term.

But they should've seen that D.Howard would never work out as a PF (skill set too limited) and they should've known that Asik would never work as a backup center after last season....

EXACTLY!!!

will it be a player or picks. if it's a player, most likely a PF, it might stunt the growth of T Jones who i kinda see an upside in.

Asik has the upper hand in all of these. He just needs to continue pouting until he gets the right team...lol

Why do they 'have ' to trade him? They are #4 in the conference. Its not like they are reeling

that may be true, but they have to get something for him. right now he's just riding the pine with millions of dollars going to waste this year and next. not to mention he's seriously disgruntled also so he just doesn't even wanna play. in short, he's redundant.

Because the guy is unhappy and the longer they keep him the harder it is for them to trade him. They'll get a lot less in return.

Agree. Asik's owed $15mil next year and then he's an FA. The team that gets him is going to need some other deal sweetner.

The Cowboys sucks! Romo is so overrated. He chokes every time starting in December!
