07:33 AM ET 12.17 | Early in the week, the Rockies' front office has already been busy, with Justin Morneau and Boone Logan benefitting. Morneau, who will take over for legend Todd Helton, signed a two-year, $12.5-million deal that breaks down as follows: $5 million in 2014, $6.75 million in 2014 with a $9 million mutual option for 2016. The option can be voided with a $750,000 buyout. Morneau also can make an additional $500,000 this season if he reaches 550 at-bats and finishes the season on the active 25-man roster. There are also boosts for finishing in the top-10 in the MVP voting and standard postseason bonuses. Morneau is no hurry to be traded either. He must be paid a $375,000 assignment bonus if dealt. Morneau said he chose the Rockies because they were the first team to call in free agency and never stopped pursuing him.

The Rockies are looking a lot like the Twinkles West retirement home with the now addition of Morneau added to the roster.

Not sure I like these moves. Doing this puts Cuddyer in RF, moves CarGo to CF, and spends $$$.The team could have kept Fowler in CF, signed a RF that is more durable than Morneau, and left Cuddyer at 1B. The defense would have been better, and I have serious doubts about Gonzalez lasting the season in CF. The guy seems to be injured a lot.Oh, well, it's the Rockies.

I still don't understand the purpose of the Fowler trade to the Astros.

When you have the owner stating over and over that Dan O'Dowd is the best GM in baseball you will quickly understand the Rockies situation.

A mutual option. Not exactly guaranteed here, FN.

first,,,Morneau needs to learn the walking before do the running in the colorado team,,,
in other words he would need to prove his durability and productibity in the team's lineup
or else how can he be asking for a salary increase already???????
