07:42 AM ET 12.17 | In a way, Zach Kline is staying put -- in the Pac-12, that is. [Kline], the backup quarterback at California this season, has told Oregon State coaches he plans to transfer to OSU. The 6-2, 200-pound Kline, who played behind starter Jared Goff as a redshirt freshman this fall, will attend a junior college during winter and spring terms. Kline will transfer to OSU for either summer or fall term, sit out next season and be eligible as a sophomore in the 2015 season. The Danville, Calif., native, who was recruited by Oregon State out of high school, played in six games for the Bears. ... "I just think from what the coaches have told me, I have a better opportunity somewhere else," Kline told the Bay Area News Group two weeks ago. "They put it to me straight and in a professional way, which I appreciate."

He'd have plenty of company if he was. I'd rather he transfer TO Florida.

Methinks Zach, who was recruited during the Tedford regime and really liked being at Cal, is a little bit bitter and wants some payback. He could have gone other places for sure where he'd get more exposure. Many Cal fans rate him higher than Goff, but **** and Co. are putting all behind Jared.

I've met some gloomy, quietly desperate females of the same-same persuasion. K. D. Lang avers that the U-haul is their identifying vehicle. Not all is as sunny as it seems.

KD Lang. Calls Red Deer Alberta home. Saw her once in the airport Calgary. Seemed pretty smiley to me. I guess I would be too if I had on my arm what she did. She's got good taste.

Tedford should have played Kline as a true freshman instead of the inept qb he stuck with. Goff may have beaten him out anyway this year, but Kline would have all that experience now. He got rooked out of an entire season by the coach who recruited him. **** didn't have anything to do with any of it, so shouldn't be blamed. Goff is probably the best pro qb prospect in the nation RIGHT NOW. Makes throws that make Winston and the other superstars look like the college kids they are.

That's a little overblown. Goff prospers in Dy ke's receiver-rich offense and can make some throws, but he's got a long way to go before he's near Heisman material. The kid is underweight, prone to bad decisions (at the moment), and he can get rattled: if you're playing him, your defensive coach knows just what to do. (That's why the first part of Goff's season was better than the second part.) As to Kline, Tedford was somehow stubbornly entrenched with bad QBs and would only play them in terms of seniority. That's why we got Bridgford instead of Kline in 2012 when Zach Maynard, the disaster, went down. (Tedford's QB stubbornness was probably part of his ego and a big reason he went down.) Kline was okay through the 2013 season, said all the right things about backing Goff up, etc., but when the coaches told him point-blank we're going with Goff, his pride - and he's a gutty, gritty player who should do well - was really hurt. As for Goff, we shall see if he can grow into the position. Needs a better O line than he had.
