07:43 AM ET 12.17 | There are, of course, the bigger names, some of whom have already bowed out of the Texas job, but another less-heralded option may reside in East Lansing: Mark Dantonio. This is a dark horse to consider. (And only in this search would Dantonio be considered a dark horse.) Dantonio has led Michigan State to 11 wins in three of the past four years -- and to the Big Ten title in 2013 -- with a never-fail, old-as-football-itself system: run the football, protect the football, makes plays downfield, hit the quarterback, jam up receivers, tackle, convert on special teams. If not as big-time as Saban, not as trendy as Fisher, not as local as Gundy nor as explosive as Malzahn, Dantonio would put the bread and butter back in Texas football.

Go get Tressel. Dantonio is merely a Vest disciple.

I figure either FL or FSU to lose their coach. JMO

This would be an interesting hire. Dantonio would bring his system that has proven effective. But, he has accomplished his successes at Cincinnati and MSU, both programs were looking for success and an identity. The kids playing for both these programs are not the 4/5 star athletes Texas routinely gets. I think there'd be a learning curve (meaning they'd have to work for it) for the kids accustomed to Mack Brown.

Yep, then Sparty would have room for Zook or Fulmer.

What is it with B1G connections and SEC football coaches? Trying to find the next Saban?

Odds are good....Saban, Miles and Bert the Badger......66.67% of success

After one of their regents said UT has all cash in the world not in Vatican if Im Texas go with the lesser name. Word is out with big ones. Ask Saban he just got a raise on top of the one he received 6 months ago

Big 10 football only works in the Big 10.

Nice sales job by the DFP, but I just don't see the UTx big wheels going this route.

Nick Saban doesn't agree!

All CFB Coachs are hoping to get on Texas Short list so they can get a quick raise. It seems like everytime they throw a name out there that coach gets a raise.

Until Orangeblood.com tells us who it is going to be. Seems to be UTx's way of leaking info. First Deloss then Mack.

Good point! I think we could call it a long list by now. Maybe they should just Auction the job off.
