Flyers chairman hints at change

07:44 AM ET 12.17 | The Flyers already shook up their coaching staff, and there may be some appetite for a roster change now, too. They have lost four in succession on the road in which their goaltending suddenly has a bit of a leak. ... [They] remain three points out of a playoff berth, and that's one point further back than where they were a few weeks ago. All of which is of concern to Flyers chairman Ed Snider, who indicated Monday there may be some changes. A trade, perhaps? "I think we have to take a long hard look at where we are and where we are going," Snider said Monday at the Wells Fargo Center during a Flyers Wives charity event. "We're always doing that and we will continue doing it. Whatever we can do to help the team get over the hump, we will do. Obviously, we're not happy with giving up third-period leads."

A realization that it takes an elite goalie to make a cup run -- or at least in Philly make them above .500

Philly knows they need an elite goalie. Where they fail is in their decades-long belief that they already HAVE such a goalie.

Being from the area, originally, I've heard it all before ( many times, in fact). They should realize the best thing to do is have a fire sale by trade deadline and move anything they can ( it will be tough, though). Start over next year, get a good draft pick, bring up the few promising kids they have, some FA fishing. Time to start all over again from scratch. As far as mgmt. changes are concerned, I don't see them doing it. This is the epitome of the old boy network

I don't think it's politically correct for Snider to be taking a "long hard look" at a Flyers wives charity event.

That whole situation (if true) still gives me the willys (sp?). Gross.

The only place on earth where elite goaltenders stops being elite.

But then again, if you have to go back 40 years to make a point.....

That's ancient history. I'm talking since Hextall. He was the last of the giants in net for the Flyers. The hex has been on that team at the goaltending position since Pelle Lindbergh's death.

They were going to write this song about me but "Big Willy" didn't fit. :-)

Are you that old?

I think you might be able to fit Ron Hextall in there too and you only have to go back 20 years for him.

Yes...

I never cared much for Ron H. At least, not after Felix the Cat Potvin turned him into a pinata.

was never a fan either...but he revolutionised the position. I believe he and LOTF are responsible for the dreaded trapezoid, because they were/are fantastic puck handlers
