07:45 AM ET 12.17 | In San Jose, teal sends a message -- and not a kind one. [On Monday, Sharks coach Todd McLellan] assigned Logan Couture and Brent Burns the teal practice jerseys that designate skaters on the third and fourth lines. Whether that's where the two top-six players end up Tuesday night when San Jose faces off against the St. Louis Blues remains to be seen, as McLellan said that decision hadn't been made. "There's some players that haven't produced that we really count on a lot," McLellan said. "And maybe it's an opportunity to shake things up a little bit." ... As for Burns, McLellan said, "His commitment level to working and getting through it is never questioned, but are you under control enough to be effective?" Burns, he added, has the same go-to guy responsibility as Couture and "has to find a way to produce."

The alternative is benching them altogether. Sometimes a fire has to be lit.

Nothing shouts weakness more than teal...

Teal practice jerseys? Really?

December 17, 2013  09:26 AM ET

It only stands to reason that the more productive the player the more ice time and responsibility they receive.

Teal practice jerseys are tolerable in SJ, wait till McLellan breaks out the lavender ones.

Everyone out there's a shark. Oh, wait, never mind it's a San Jose shark.

there was some college football coach that had the visitor's locker room painted pink...sorry, but I think it's absurd. If the colour of the walls or your jersey has an affect on how you play....maybe you should rethink your career choice

Hey, that's great motivation for the visiting team. Better than putting a quote on the board.

Mauve...

That'll show them!

Nice to see a coach that pays close attention to the standings - then tells the players: Time to start playing like winners again, guys. I'm kinda wondering when the next big change (that doesn't involve G Ari Battdung changing rules) will come to Hockey - 3 defencemen and two forwards anyone - dressing 9 of each, almost makes sense for some teams - 8 and 10 would prob'ly be a big improvement for the Jetz.

Shouldn't McLellan wear teal everything during the playoffs?

When San Jose plays Winnipeg, does the sound guy play music from West Side Story?
