07:22 AM ET 12.18 | When Jerry Jones looks in the mirror, he sees a perfectly capable general manager. Jones said hiring a general manager would be like duplicating work. "It's often been said, well why don't I get someone to be the GM, why don't I get someone to pick the players?" he said. "Well, who in the world do you think that person, when they walk through the door and say we want to get this player and we want to pay this player, what in the world do you think I'm going to do? I'm going to sit down, and I'm going to go through it, and I'm going to say, 'Show me the player. Show me everything about the player. Before I write the check. Show me the player, and let me see everything about the player.' Well, rather than that have happen, I get involved and know everything there is to know about the players."

You can officially make a claim the man is suffering from dementia.

He does know crazy.

Jerry.... The key part of having a GM is to TRUST him.

December 18, 2013  07:48 AM ET

And another thing..JJ has written a crap ton of bad checks.

Late stage of dementia, hopefully soon he will forget he owns the Cowboys.

There's more to making a smart personnel decision than just having all available information.

I could have access to that information, it doesn't mean I would pick the right players. Nor does it mean that for Jerrah.

A GM is only as good as the support staff around him. And when the support staff consists of sycophants like Larry Lacewell, the results are there for everyone to see.

That's one...

Current GM hasn't won a playoff game since 1996

Who makes more money than Jerry?

All GM's will have some misses, but JJ's track record speaks for itself. Our problem in Dallas is that the Cowboys are a business for the Jones family and business is good. While I'm sure they "want" to win games, they are winning in the real game and there is nobody holding their feet to the fire. You hire a real GM, and even run it through the system like Jones describes, that guy and his staff are motivated to succeed by the very fact they could be "fired". That type of redundancy can not only spur success if the new GM does half the job JJ/SJ have done, but it gives the Jones family a little buffer from the hot seat and they can always fire the GM and say "it was his/her fault". Dang egos killin' a franchise in front of our very eyes.

NOBODY - that stadium is quite the piggy bank for JJ.

"Jerry thinks it's crazy to hire a GM"
And therein is the whole problem. The boyz record speaks volumes about the current GM's abilities.

December 18, 2013  08:37 AM ET

If you have an owner like Jerry Jones, Mike Brown, etc. - a GM would be useless because these types of owners do not give the GM the power to do his job.

Control freak.

I work for a family-owned business that is a microcosm of Jerry Jones' empire in Dallas. A control freak owner who hires people to do a job, but doesn't trust them to do it, and micromanages everything they do until they finally give up and move on to greener pastures out of sheer frustration. The Cowboys' playoff record for the past 15+ years speaks for itself, but JJ will never claim it's his fault. It's the fault of everyone else.
