07:28 AM ET 12.18 | Omer Asik in New York? The Knicks made a foray into the [Asik] sweepstakes and had discussions with the Rockets and a third team about a three-way swap, an NBA source told The Post. But the source said the Knicks are likely to fall short of obtaining the Houston 7-footer who has asked to be traded. Asik, who makes $5.5 million this season, is an obvious fit as the Knicks are thin and injury-wracked up front with Kenyon Martin and Amar'e Stoudemire both risks, but have a glut of shooting guards. The Knicks are willing to deal Iman Shumpert -- whose stock has fallen a bit in recent weeks -- and Metta World Peace. J.R. Smith is the lone prominent Knick who can't be traded until Jan. 15 under a quirk in the collective bargaining agreement. The Rockets want to move Asik by Thursday.

LMAO...Why would the rockets want any of that garbage.....

December 18, 2013  08:12 AM ET

just when Metta was getting excited and raving on about finally returning to his NY hometown.

I'm sure Asik will enjoy going from Howard's backup to being Chandler's backup.

You think Asik will like playing behind Chandler? Who are the Knicks trading? Nobody wants any of the players except for maybe Melo or Shumpert. Who would want Felton, Smith, or MWP?

Don't Come To LA, Bro.

They don't. It's yet another one of the false stories that seem to permeate the web.

Why is there an 'obvious need' ?

Tyson is returning any day now

December 18, 2013  09:03 AM ET

This makes no sense. NY is done.

This can't be true. Asik to Knicks fixes nothing.

December 18, 2013  10:28 AM ET

And how is this a "sweepstakes"? An ok center with a sub-prime contract.

And Tyson and Asik on the court at the same time is an even worse idea than Howard and Asik on the court at the same time.

Asik wants to be a starter. The Knicks won't be able to keep Asik and Chandler happy. They'd just be setting themselves up for more drama......

I think the fact that Asik wants 2 start is the problem. The teams that don't have centers & could offer the starting position don't exactly have the right pieces 2 complete the deal...especially since Houston wants a PF as a replacement. I would imagine most teams would like 2 keep their starting PF if adding Asik as the center.

I don't think it's a bad deal. Shump is a good perimeter defender. MWP will be useful in the playoffs for the Rockets.
Knicks may have to figure out how to use Chandler and Asik, but never hurts to have a good center on your roster.
