Strong wants nothing to do with Texas talk

07:36 AM ET 12.18 | Not only are folks at Louisville likely concerned they'll lose their quarterback, but speculation also finds their head coach in the thick conversation for taking over in Austin. Charlie Strong wants nothing to do with the speculation surrounding the vacant Texas head coaching job. The University of Louisville coach on Tuesday was named the front-runner for the job by oddsmakers, which came as a bit of a surprise to those around the U of L football program. The odds he'd take the job were listed at 6-5 per sportsbook.ag, up from 5-2 on Monday, and made him first ahead of Baylor's Art Briles and Vanderbilt's James Franklin. "I don't even think about it," Strong said. "I don't even worry about it. I have a good job here. ... The only thing I can control is what's happening right here."

Trying to handle an East Texas twang would admittedly be a mouthful.

I don't know if this answers LUS's question or not, but his name is now getting thrown around. He is saying all the "right" things which leads me to believe he is interested.

I mean come on Louisville is a bball school . . . always will be.

LMAO. The oddsmakers made him the frontrunner so it must be true. This crap won't end soon enough.

Who says Texans aren't the nicest people around . Seems like all the top coaches have been getting raises since deep pockets UT announced they would spare no $ to get their man.

Well, y'all gotta hire somebody SOMETIME. But I hear ya on the grind that all this daily and baseless speculation brings to the fandom. Grates on the nerves bigtime. I suggest liberal and constant application of beer.

lol.......until they start talking about multi million dollar contract that Louisville can't honor.

December 18, 2013  08:51 AM ET

I would have made Briles frontrunner, then Franklin. Somebody knows somebody who knows somebody.

Urban's hoping his name gets dropped as he could use a little extra "love" around Xmas time.

Pitino spent it on strippers and waitresses.

I read the article in the Louisville paper. No where in the article does Strong say he is not interested in the job. Reading between the lines suggests he is definitely a candidate. I'm glad Dantonio said he views MSU as a destination, not a stepping stone.

DS, you are safe. Dantonio ain't going nowhere. That mild heart attack he had 2 yrs back was a wake up to Mark. He doesn't need the $$ and he is more interested in building a legacy like Izzo than he is in material things.

As for the article, I don't need to read it. Charley Strong has been waiting for "the call" for several years now. It has only been a question of who is on the other end of the line. Louisville football is not a destination job.

Well of course being one myself it was by way of professional courtesy that I omitted them from my comments.

But if it please the Court of Fannation, I concede this point of order and clarification raised by my fellow Hillbilly Buckeye.

Lol.......always looking for a good lawyer now and then when them pesky feds come snooping around my mountain in the spring here in eastern Tenn........ have to keep you in mind.

Guess they are going to have to put an ad in the local paper for the job.

December 18, 2013  09:31 AM ET

If I am Texas I would give Franklin a major look because of the winning program he has built at Vandy with the high academic standard just to get enroll at that University.

Agree with all your points. Isn't it nice that Buckeyes and Spartans can get along?

I am surprised it took this long to get thrown around tbh...

I dont know what UT BOR is looking for.....

But Strong is a good coach, able to recruit and young....

I refuse to believe UT will not get a HC from a Big6 school
