07:29 AM ET 12.19 | As Thursday dawned, no deal had been reported, but that doesn't mean one won't happen for Omer Asik.[Sources] said Houston officials spent much of Wednesday weighing the merits of Boston's offer of forward Brandon Bass, guard Courtney Lee and a future first-round draft pick for the 7-footer from Turkey while remaining engaged in talks with Philadelphia and leaving open the possibility that other teams could still join the bidding. The Rockets, sources said, have been interested in prying veteran center Spencer Hawes away from the Sixers along with a future first-round pick, but they won't know until Thursday whether Philadelphia is prepared to part with that much for Asik or whether Boston's offer is the best available.

Just trade Bill Russell already.....Lord.

If a backup center is what Houston want in return; then Philadelphia is the team to make the deal with. Considering everything this would be the perfect deal for both teams because Philly get the the starting center the team need and Houston get the backup center they need. Also, Nerl can play power next season and Philly have a nice young point guard; something to build upon.

I can't believe these teams are stupid enough to fall for Houston's bidding war. Props to Houston for getting the most out of Asik and thumbs down to the other teams for even adding a first round pick...

A first round pick is as good a potential as Asik has proven. I don't think it's an overkill. I can't help but congratulate their GM on this balancing act.

They will be much more deadlier if they can land Hawes. What they're getting from Celts is straight garbage.

Getting Bass and a first round is not bad. Bass has a consistent midrange jumper that allows Howard to work in the paint.

Asik for Hawes is plan A obviously.
Plan B would likely be Bass & Lee with a first rounder for Asik.
Hawes would be another guy to stretch the floor for the rockets, I can see Howard getting more boards and Harden getting more dimes with the Hawes trade.

Bass isn't going to help them much. They should do more.

He's averaging an 11/6 a game. Gives them a valuable bench guy who can score and defend. Can even play the 5 in a pinch. He doesn't have the range of a true stretch 4 like a Dirk or a Anderson but he can play far enough from Howard so he shouldn't get in the way. And he has post season experience on a team that could use some more professionals. Not sure why people are always down on Bass. I would take him any day on my team...especially as a bench piece.

He's not a good defender or rebounder and he's a black hole on offense.

They have a logjam at PF. They are just trying to open up more playing time for Sullinger and Olynyk because Sullinger has been playing out of position at the 5. They don't really have a starting caliber center on the roster. It's not like getting Asik would make them much better. More of a lateral move to tidy up the roster and let players play in their natural positions.

Asik is a legitimate center in this league. He has proven that. So getting him for some lose Bass and chords is not fair. I hope Houston looks elsewhere cos the Celts package is fake goods. If you're the Celts why would you even do this. Y're getting by with rookies that have Noah potential.

Why add this Asik who will not sacrifice his fame and money for a championship. I mean if Asik accepts the bench role as Howard's back up Houston will be practically unstoppable.

I have watched a handful of Celtics game this year. He has improved his defense and he is far from a black hole on offense because that is actually what he is known for. He didn't get the name "No pass Bass" for nothing. You haven't liked him ever since the Magic gave him away for Big baby, MMA. Sounds like you have a bias against him.

Asik should have more value than bass because he's a center who can defend and rebound. Not too many of those out there these days. But because of the way he has behaved since Howard came there, he has lowered his own value with his attitude. Plus, with that poison pill contract, There are few options for him to go. Small market teams don't want to pay him $15 million next year regardless of what the actual cap charge is. I think he would be perfect on OKC because he could do what K perk is supposed to be doing. That's where I would like to see him but OKC is too cheap to pay him.

He isn't that good. There is a reason nobody keeps him long. He doesn't even shoot a good percentage. He lost his starting job in Orlando for a reason.

NO - 2 years
Dallas - 2 years
Orlando - 2 years
Boston - 3 years (been trade bait for 2 years)

If Bass was good teams would keep him.

Plenty of useful players get moved around a lot. I'm not saying the guy is the end all for the Rockets. I'm sure they would prefer a true stretch 4 with more range. But they put this self-imposed deadline on themselves so that will lower the return on any trade. But Bass would be a pretty good bench player for them, I think. If you disagree with his abilities, then that's your opinion. But I don't see anybody pounding on the Rockets door with a better offer yet.
