Gordon odd man out in Chicago

With Kirk Hinrich more a combo point/shooting guard, the Bulls now are overloaded at shooting guard with Ben Gordon, Larry Hughes and Thabo Sefolosha. It would seem Gordon becomes the odd man out given that he is seeking a huge extension and couldn't come to terms with the Bulls last summer. Hughes, whom the Bulls rejected in trade in 2000 while instead taking the first-round pick they would turn into Jamal Crawford, had become as unpopular in Cleveland as Ben Wallace was in Chicago.

good trade for the bulls

they will trade gordon next season for sure and need a decent big man in return

February 22, 2008  09:43 AM ET

that trade SHOCKED ME, but somethin had to be done

February 22, 2008  10:54 AM ET

They can't trade Gordon next year unless they sign him this summer, he's going to be a restricted free agent.

February 22, 2008  10:54 AM ET

GOOD TRADE BUT THEY STILL NEED A DECENT BIG MAN TO COMPLIMENT HINRICH

February 22, 2008  10:56 AM ET

Gooden is a good addition but Joe Smith will be missed. Hughes is a loser, too big a contract, and cannot be moved. I'did rather pay Gordon

February 22, 2008  11:19 AM ET

ESPN - agreed (even though i'm not a Gordon fan), but Hughes only haas 2+ yrs of bad basketball on his contract. Gordon wants a long term deal to be an undersized-2G who cant play Defense.

I like the trade, but am worried that it might bury Sefolosha whio should be getting major minutes at this point

February 22, 2008  11:43 AM ET

What's new? He has been the odd man out for about two years now.

February 22, 2008  11:52 AM ET

Bulls have to trade gordon. he's a great scorer, but that's "all" he does well, and he's looking for BIG money...he's just not worth it. hinrich & sef as starters and hughes off the bench for 2 years (that's better than wallace for another 2 years!!!!!!!). Gooden was a decent pickup, especially since he provides something that the Bulls were lacking. Wallace, Thomas and Noah all duplicated each other. Joe Smith will be missed, was a great offseason signing by pax. Cleveland just got much better w/the trade too. Good trade all around.

if you were gonna get gooden and hughes with sefolosha and hinrich already there i would have gotten rid of ben gordon maybe for a high draft pick or something and add some cash and maybe duhon as compensation to get that pick...a 1st round pick for gordon, duhon and cash...sounds good to me...

Too bad, the Ben Gordan always seems an odd fit with this team..He can light it up however..I wonder if a team like New Orleans could use instant offense off the bench...

February 22, 2008  02:03 PM ET

I would bet that Gordon wouldn't be happy coming off the bench in New Orleans or any where else. He thinks he's better than he is.

NEW JERSEY NETS thats all im saying

Don't like getting Hughes but Wallace had two go. I hope pax can make a move in the off season to bring in a star player! In the NBA good players don't win titles.

I am unsure about this trade

February 22, 2008  06:09 PM ET

Gordon wants big money, but he isnt a complete player. He has his moments as a scorer, but he gives up as many points on the defensive end, I dont like huges either, but at least he can play some defense, and actually drive to the lane. I would love to see them trade him down the road. As far as Drew Gooden, he isn't the answer, if isn't gonna play at a higher level with the bulls, if Lebron couldn't make him an all star, no one will. Getting rid of ben wallace was a great move, only because he was asked to do to much at this stage of his career, he needs to play on a team with defined leaders were he knows his role, he can't be the leader of a team. He performed best when he was with the pistons and he had a supportive role.

THE BULLS HAVE NO PLAN!!!!! Now their rebuilding again???!!!????!!!??? Paxson like his brother made a major goof and he will never get it back!!!! Here's his mistakes:
1.He OVERVALUED his squad,
2.didnt pull the big trade when he could have(KOBE GASOL)
3. Signed Wallace when clearly his needs was a low post scorer
4.Drafted terrible(Noah,Grey)
5. Thinking "Hustle guys" can win championships
6. Giving Nocioni all that money when clearly he doesnt even have a skill
7. Wishful thinking that Gordon Deng would sign extensions

And now their rebuilding again ummm Bulls fan deserve another guy to rebuild you only get 1 chance to rebuild in this league!!! BULLS FANS, RUN THIS GUY OUT OF TOWN!!!!!
