Coaches who made more than $1M per win

07:35 AM ET 12.19 | On the upside, Purdue and Cal managed not to go winless this season. [But] that's probably small comfort given what they each paid their head coach for producing a single victory. Not including money related to buyouts they helped their coaches absorb, Purdue paid a little more than $2 million to Darrell Hazell and Cal $1.8 million to Sonny Dykes, putting them atop a group of five NCAA Bowl Subdivision schools that had seven-figure costs per victory based on head coaching compensation alone. Virginia gave Mike London nearly $1.09 million for each of two wins, Arkansas $1.07 million to Bret Bielema for each of three and Kentucky just over $1 million to Mark Stoops for each of two. All but London were in their first season with the schools.

Forget the student athletes. forget the games. It's all about the Benjamins.

I'm a UVA and London fan but I'm surprised he didn't get cut after this season.

The Buckeye faced that double juggernaught this year. Don't be fooled by that combined 2-22 record, these cupcakes had frosting!

Funny how the Cal coaches name Sonny D-y-k-e-s is spelled out above in the article but if you type it in here **** it gets bleeped.

I think he needs to change his name to Sonny Lesbian and that way we won't be confused.

With comments like that, your Honorary SEC Fan Membership Card is in the mail, sir.

But don't expect a copy of the SEC Cheater's Handbook and Cupcake Baking Guide signed by Mike Slive. You ain't quite ready for that yet.

Train wrecks are expensive to clean up. But I have one question since these are public institutions.

Was the clean up project awarded to the low bidder?

You about ready for BP in Knoxville? I'd sure welcome him back in Fayetteville.

Congrats for UTk not being in this list.....my little piggies are not so fortunate

CBJ's compensation per win wasn't that far under the 1 million mark either. I believe he got about 600k per win. I'd sure take it.

And yes, I want BP back in Knoxville yesterday. I like Cuonzo as a person but he has zero fire when it comes to coaching.

Heck, UF isn't too far from this list, either. Sad.

Me: BP = Bobby Petrino

You: BP = Bruce Pearl

Sorry for the confusion, VFH

I'm in a perpetual state of confusion so no biggie.

And no, at this point I wouldn't trade CBJ for your version of BP. CBJ gets a pass for this year. I'm curious to see if he can hold this stellar class together (e$pecially $ince he lo$t Lambert to Auburn ye$terday) and what he does with them next year.

No, and your avi pcitress obtained clemency for you. Butch Jones (let the sophomoric levity land where it may) for at least 4 more years, and may he build some success into the Vols program.

I hope you and UTk find the stability in which you seek. The Forbe's list of most valuable programs shined a pretty bright light on UTk's issues, IMO.

No doubt stability and consistancy is what you guys need. Good luck......

Now, now, children, let's calm down a minute here. System establishment involves process and so time. Hazell, Dy kes, et al.m can only really be considered larcenous if, after two-three years, their systems fail after they've been established. We can then look back with crystal clear hindsight, re-calculating the $$$ per win ratio. Silly a ss article, as usual in sub-rag USA Today.
