Nonis rants: 'We're not making a move'

07:41 AM ET 12.19 | For frustrated Maple Leafs fans and players, Dave Nonis has a strong and clear message. "If they're waiting for a coaching change, they're going to be waiting a long time," Nonis said in a lengthy interview on Wednesday. "It's not happening. We're not making a move (player or coach) for the sake of making a move. ... Do I like what's going on? No. We have to find a way of getting out of this as a group. Players. Coaches. Management. No one is going to help us. I'm getting a lot of offers on players, but the offers are all a joke. I'm not about to trade a quality player for someone who can't help us. That's what's being presented our way. If I could make changes this afternoon I would, but it has to be a positive move for the organization. Look, there's no one coming over the hill to help us."

TO is a great place to play when things are going well. Not so much when things aren't. The TO sports media really only has the Leafs to focus on since no one really cares about the Raptors.

Bottomline is that the Leafs are no where near as good as their early record nor are they as bad as their recent record. Leaf fans are in agony while Leaf haters are in ecstasy.

We already spent all of our money on the Clarkson goon. We figured he was a can`t miss 50 goal scorer.

Very true. 2 or 3 wins one way and they`re right back in the thick of it. 2 or 3 losses the other way and they`re on the outside looking in. Great fodder for fans and haters alike.

Just as a thought, the Leafs had a bit of success last season, so this year they decided to go all-in by trading a buck for 4 quarters by acquiring another goalie that does not stand out from the rest of the pack (remember folks, if you have 2 number 1 goalies, you have NO number 1 goalies)...then they pushed it over the top by offering a king`s ransom to a glorified goon. Expectations steadily rose, and all of a sudden the fans in T.O. realized that those were really just lateral moves, the team is as mediocre as before....

While not as big of a drop off as when Burkie sold the farm to acquire Kessell...I still see some parallels.

Boy this has shades of Burke written all over it...

funny that I took the time to make the same point. You managed to do it with far fewer words!

The funny thing is if the Raptors were doing well it would be much less pressure on the Leafs.

Anything MLSE touches turns to mud.

QUOTE(#10):

It is taking an exceptionally long time to undo Richard Peddie's decade of dream-shattering. He came into the organization with a Raptors team a couple pieces away from being a true contender, a Leafs team that had made 2 conf. finals in 5 years, and in a few years a MLS franchise that was as well supported as soccer can get in NA. He tore that all limb by limb.

it`s incredible when you look at it all together. Though I`m not a fan of the city, it`s still one of the biggest markets in America + there are TONS of lucrative endorsement opportunities up here. They have one of the richest ownership conglomerates around...yet they can`t attract talent at any level. They destroy everything they touch.

Grabovski's 9G, 18A looking kinda nice these days?

Irrelevant. Dude would not put up those numbers in the Blue and White.

Well, not with Carlyle as coach anyway.

How does Celine come off having the best plus/minus on the team?

December 19, 2013  09:18 AM ET

The Leafs still have a lot of holes to fill, and after a strong start fans started to prepare early for a Stanley Cup party. They are good enough to make the playoffs, but not nearly deep enough to make a long run. The cupboards were bare for a long time. They are just starting to build the farm team - things are going to take some time. Of course 50 + years is a pretty freakin long time to wait.

I liked where Nonis said that the trades the other teams were offering were all a joke. I guess they forgot that Burke wasn't the GM anymore.
