USA Hockey mulls fighting ban at all amateur levels

07:41 AM ET 12.20 | The United States may become a country that no longer tolerates fighting among its ranks. USA Hockey's board of directors will consider a proposal next month to ban fighting from all levels of amateur hockey in the United States. Junior A hockey, for 16- to 20-year-olds, is the last remaining level of the game under USA Hockey's jurisdiction that still tolerates fighting. The push to outlaw fighting is being spurred by a recent spate of serious injuries resulting from fights and concern over the prospect of lawsuits. "We need to take a firm stand to preserve our sport, prevent catastrophic injury and avoid financial repercussions," said Dr. Michael J. Stuart, the chief medical officer for USA Hockey, who has been a leader in the effort to ban fighting.

It's banned in the CHL. Thought we were following the US's lead...

Last time I checked the WHL was still part of the CHL and fighting isn't banned in the WHL...

No wonder so many dummies come outta the west.

Yeah, meant OHL though. And it's only like a sorta kinda ban.

There isn't a booth for Mensa candidates at the ACC the last time I looked.

Fully prepared. I'm feeling quite bold today.

I prefer to mull wine if I have to mull anything.

Just another reason to not waste time watching hockey at any other leverl than the NHL.

Couple things here:

1) NRA has become a highly politicized organization; often tossing itself into political debates and obviously making campaign contributions.
2) Problem is not guns; but easy guns with no background checks.
3) DC. These guys could screw up a wet dream. Turning their attention to banning rubber toy guns instead of working on a universal background check.
4) Most hunters and outdoorsmen dont want to see guns banned for obvious reasons; but actually wouldnt mind a background check similar to some states' investigation for the right to carry (i.e pistol permits).

agree with all of this...but point #1 has made the rest of you highly viable arguments moot. Which is a shame.....

Stronger background checks were in legislation sent to Congress after Newton but Republicans killed it so as not to annoy the NRA. If most hunters and outdoorsmen agree with background checks why did their organization kill the legislation?
