Heat rising on Devils goalies

07:41 AM ET 12.20 | A win Friday would give the Devils their first three-game winning streak in a month, and they'll look for it with goalie Cory Schneider in net. Sitting on the bench behind Martin Brodeur the past two games has seemed like an eternity for [Schneider]. In reality, it's been a week since he last played. ... "Right now Marty has been real sharp," Schneider said. "He stole that first game (3-0 over Tampa Bay Saturday night) and gave us a good chance [Wednesday night] ... "For me, it's not so much the pressure of, 'I have to have a shutout here or I'm not going to play again.' It's just keeping us in the game against a good team and giving us a chance to win. Hopefully the way we've been playing lately, if I'm sharp and make it tough on them, we'll get enough offense and win."

What Schneider needs is some of the goal support that Marty gets. And of course, they need to maybe pick a goalie and go with him for a little while. PDB needs to get this team on a good winning streak. The game against the Sens showed promise but they face a much better team tonight against the Ducks.

The key is Brodeur's puch handling that clears a lot of pucks and helps out defence.

Yep. It's been a long time since the Devils had to concern themselves with a transition in goal. They must be so used to Brodeur's style that adjusting to Schneider is not that easy.

exactly
that and being used to have a goalie that plays 79 games a season....

You'd think they'd be used to it.

I know what you're saying, I wasn't talking about anything permanent as both goalies NEED to play. It is an awkward season in goal, for sure. What I meant was, if a goalie has a good game, don't automatically bench him for the next game because you want to keep it even. If a guy gets hot, stick with him for a few games, let him used to the defense (especially Schneider).

I also doesn't help that half the defense is a revolving door between Newark and Albany but with Salvador coming back and Gelinas having a great start, the D should get more consistent.

Do you think Brodeur should just retire and let the Devils move on with Schneider?

Not during the season. The team had to make the trade to get Schneider or they would have lost out. They knew they would be in this position this year and I'm assuming they didn't want to rest everything on Keith Kincaid next year. It's the coaching decisions of PDB that I don't get, who starts and who sits.

Brodeur is an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season

They also have the age factor with Broduer. I don't think he is able to play as many games in a season as he used to. They need to put Schneider in there more often to rest the guy.
