Hoosiers want T-Wolves coach

Word at Indiana is that the Hoosiers might be willing to offer Minnesota Timberwolves coach Randy Wittman $10 million over five years to return to his alma mater. Wittman has two years left on his Wolves contract, but the second year is his option, not the team's.

Oh no!!!!! Dwayne Casey got fired two years ago after the team went 20-20...Wittman hasn't led the Wolves to 20 wins since...Take my coach, Please?

February 22, 2008  09:07 AM ET

Why?

February 22, 2008  09:13 AM ET

IU will try anything to get their great hope again

February 22, 2008  10:24 AM ET

Please take Wittman off our hands! I am begging.

February 22, 2008  11:07 AM ET

Since when does anyone actually coach in the NBA?

February 22, 2008  12:04 PM ET

Why would IU do this: hiring an NBA coach with no college head coaching experience. Please let this not be true. IU's #1 target should be Tony Bennett at Washington State, followed by Scott Drew at Baylor, and Bruce Pearl if he is willing to leave Tennessee. Wittman being a former IU players means nothing to me. IU should go after the best coach, whether they went to IU, are from the state, or not. Ridiculous.

February 22, 2008  12:18 PM ET

YES!!!! PLEASE!!! This would kill two birds with one stone -- single-handedly improving the Wolves and destroying the Hoosiers.

Please go, Randy! I'll give you a lift to Bloomington!

February 22, 2008  12:39 PM ET

Why is everyone down on Randy why not get rid of Mchale? Randy is doing okay for what he has, which isn't much!

February 22, 2008  01:13 PM ET

I am warming up the car as we speak. Hey, let's throw in McHale for free?!

None of them would want the job. The IU basketball job is about as intriguing to a young coach as Youngstown State is. It will be under major sanctions, has bad facilities, and no recruits want to go there.

Because Wittman took a team that was 20-20 when Casey was fired and went 12-30 WITH THE SAME PLAYERS. Then this year has been a train wreck as well. Lest we forget his magical coaching run in Cleveland that led to the Cavs being able to draft LeBron James. Face it, everything Wittman touches doesn't turn to gold, it turns into garbage.

February 22, 2008  02:34 PM ET

IU: you should have taken our former crappy coach when you had the chance. Your golden boy, Steve Alford.

February 22, 2008  02:56 PM ET

Why would they want Wittman? That would be a foolish hire on their part.

February 22, 2008  04:08 PM ET

Scott Drew is the most reasonable big name. I still like Ron Hunter and Dane Fife, but the IU fans think that people like John Calipari, Bruce Pearl, and Thad Matta would want to take over a team that recruits don't want to go to plus sanctions. The radio people here are idiots thinking they can get anyone they want.

February 22, 2008  06:54 PM ET

They can. It's Indiana. They are the state's best team. Always have been, always will. Notre Dame's Digger Phelps even justified that on Gamd Day last week.

February 22, 2008  07:08 PM ET

Then who do the Wolves get? Will Taylor pull the trigger on a top coach? I hope but doubt it.

February 22, 2008  07:35 PM ET

NO! IU should try to get Sean Miller from Xavier!

February 22, 2008  07:36 PM ET

Also, anybody sayign that Indiana won't be able to get anybody because of sanctions is just simply ignorant. Indiana could get almost anybody they want, I promise you.

February 22, 2008  08:16 PM ET

HERB SENDEK from Arizona State.

Indiana needs to get Brad Stevens to drive an hour down the road from Butler to Bloomington. He already knows all about Hoosier Hysteria and has taken a tiny school to national prominence with mostly in-state players. A no brainer!
