NCAA probe hanging over USC, Washington programs

10:24 AM ET 12.22 | The Huskies have entered a world where no football program ever wants to go: The murky, mercurial, sometimes-arbitrary, often-overreaching, always-ominous realm of the NCAA's enforcement division. The Los Angeles Times revelation this week of potential recruiting violations by Washington defensive line coach Tosh Lupoi sent shivers through Husky Nation. Lupoi is being investigated for allegations that he paid for private tutoring for Husky football recruit Andrew Basham, with Davis, Basham's former high-school track coach, as the middle man. Lupoi denies it, and Basham's mother told The Seattle Times that they paid for the tutoring without any involvement from Lupoi. But on the other side is Davis with intricate, cloak-and-dagger details of the alleged exchange of cash.

The NCAA can't spot a violation south of the Mason Dixon line even when it's staring them in the face. Will programs out west receive the same treatment?

Tosh Lupoi peaked at Berkeley and started going downhill when he defected to the Huskies. He was given freer rein - and took it. And this is what happened. He was basically unregulated and crossed the line, which he always threatened to do at UC. Gives you some idea, though, about Sarkisian and what he was willing and unwilling to do.

The real conspiracy will unfold as Emmert delivers sanctions against ALL programs in the State of Texas, forcing an exodus of the rich HS talent.

Yeah you're proving my point.

Now we get a few months of stories about this crap. Hooray.

USC can't get away from the NCAA, even when they are clean.

December 22, 2013  02:14 PM ET

If the track coach has the goods then maybe the NCAA will do something. Otherwise, due to the NCAA's poor investigative ability nothing will come of it. It would be a shame for USC to suffer due to something Sark may have been part of at Washington. The worst case scenario is that USC has to find itself a new HC... where is Coach O anyway?

Good question-where is coach O?

He is sitting by the phone hoping someone calls.

Just trying to help out

All I know is if USC is found to be dirty AGAIN, the NCAA shouldn't stop until the entire FB program is completely disbanded. I mean how many times can an institution thumb their nose at the rules with no real consequences?
