07:30 AM ET 12.23 | Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones showed on Sunday his ire can be raised in a trying season, too. On Sunday morning, Ed Werder of ESPN reported that the expectation in the Cowboys' organization is that coach Jason Garrett will be fired if the team fails to make it to the playoffs. After the thrilling, come-from-behind Week 16 win over Washington, [Stephen Jones] confronted Werder in the locker room. Per a source with knowledge of the exchange, Stephen Jones told Werder that, if he has a source who is providing information on the head coach's status and the source's name isn't Jerry Jones or Stephen Jones, the story is "BS". Another source said that it wasn't a loud or hostile exchange. Stephen Jones quietly pulled Werder aside and shared that perspective.

Of course he will stay. Jerry needs a good puppet.

Indeed. There aren't many coaches who would put up with what J.J. dishes out.

That being said, if J.J. does can Garrett it would be interesting to read how J.J. or mini-J.J. spins it.

And of course, the Jones family is all about honesty and forthrightness.

Garrett is gone if Romo and Co. pull another choke job.

Stephen Jones is the source, this is just a cover-up story

They've made bad personnel decisions but they've also been honest about it and take their lumps. Garrett's not going anywhere.

Well, they do have Bill Callahan in the wings, a super bowl coach. *spits* did I really say that?

I'm sure it crossed Jerry's mind at some point.

Frightening thought...if you're a Cowboys fan.

JJ has changed coaches, coordinators and players. They've changed schemes and everything imaginable.. except JJ. They won't win as long as JJ thinks he has any football intelligence and refuses to allow competent people to make decisions. Sucks though, that as long as he makes money he won't change. JJ = Good Businessman Bad Football Guy.

JJ and mini-JJ.

I'm imagining Pat McCormick and Paul Williams as Big Enos and Little Enos in Smokey and the Bandit.

Cowboys get blown next Sunday and we'll see if Garrett gets fired. Confronting Werder just makes it hard to fire Garrett now. Werder did Garrett a favor and guaranteed him more years as HC of the Cowboys....

And Romo is a hero for now and all these Romo lovers are coming out in full force. The cowboys should have blown the Redskins away but instead they needed a miracle. It's still December and Romo is just teasing these fans like always.

December 23, 2013  08:57 AM ET

Lets be honest the cowboys will lose to the Eagles and absolutely nothing will change. JJ is too busy doing Papa John commercials to manage the cowboys as a GM full time. That dude is fixated on getting credit for those rings in the 90s, he's had almost two decades to do so and nothing. All he contributed was his pocket book and maybe a nod here or there in the draft room.

It's not illegal to ***** slap a reporter in Texas. Is it? I mean it's not like they're real people or anything.

December 23, 2013  09:09 AM ET

It's easy to be in the media these days, just make up a source and quote whatever you've decided to write about, then simply say, "I will never reveal my source".

Ed Werder used to be a pretty good reporter. Then he went to espen and adopted their mantra of throwing crap at the wall.

Oh I hope not. That whole group has got to go!

If Dallas falls to the Eagles on SNFB next week, the door won't stop hitting them in the butt 'till the room's empty!

December 23, 2013  09:36 AM ET

If the Cowboys lose ugly or by being dumb next Sunday night, then you bet Garrett is gone.

December 23, 2013  09:41 AM ET

....and while you're at it, fire the GM as well.

I want them all gone too but Little JJ just guaranteed that Garrett has a job next season w/ this story...
