07:32 AM ET 12.24 | He'll be back? On MLB Network's Hot Stove on Monday, longtime slugger Jim Thome said he is not yet ready to announce his retirement from playing. Thome last played with the Orioles in 2012. His 612 career home runs are good for seventh on MLB's all-time list. Thome worked for the White Sox' front office as a special assistant this season, a role he said he enjoyed. And he told the show's hosts that he liked spending more time with his family in 2013. But he left open the possibility that he could play again if some team gives him a shot. Get on it, some team: Thome might not defend or run the bases well at age 43, but as of 2012 he could still hit a bit. And he suggested he'd like to manage, so maybe give Jim Thome a non-roster invite and let him work alongside your young players as he auditions.

Independent League maybe, but Jim those long bus rides, budget motels, and decrease in meal money makes retirement sound like the right move to make at your age.

The man can still mash the ball.... the question - is there an opening for him somewhere - and it'll have to be in the AL...... don't think there is much there for him to land....

43 huh.....hand speed......vision......there's a reason why guys always seem to be retired by now and stay retired. The dream lives on still in the heart and the mind at 43 but nobody reminded the hands and the eyes.
