07:28 AM ET 12.24 | Now, what are his options? If former North Carolina guard P.J. Hairston wants to play in the NBA's Development League this season, and a D-League franchise wants to sign him, there's nothing in the league's rules that would preclude that. According to D-League spokesperson Joanna Shapiro, if a player is ruled ineligible by the NCAA (as Hairston was) and he's at least 18 and his high school class has graduated (applicable), he's eligible to sign a D-League contract. Shapiro added that once a player signs a pro contract, D-League or otherwise, he immediately becomes eligible for the NBA draft the following spring. Hairston has given no indication of his options, beyond a statement from a family spokesperson Friday saying he'll address future plans sometime in the next few weeks.

I don't know about that.

But Hairston is 20 or 21 years old. So he'd be eligible for the Draft next year, anyway.

But being able to sign D-league now means that he won't have to look at over-seas options to play (pro) ball until then. This was an option he could've exercised years back under the old 'Continental League'.

At the same time, though.....he could just kept his butt in school for the rest of the school year, since I believe the terms of his NCAA Scholarship would call for UNC to carry him for the entire academic year.

But then.....who goes to play ball at a D1 school these days.......for the purposes of academics  ?????

If I were an NBA GM I wouldn't touch the 10 foot pole that touched PJ Hairston with a 30 foot pole.
