07:33 AM ET 12.25 | After a night of rest, Los Angeles Lakers coach Mike D'Antoni has had a change of heart. [D'Antoni] backtracked from comments he made following a 117-90 loss to the Phoenix Suns on Monday, when he suggested that fans who are discouraged by the Lakers this season should "find another team to root for." "I was an idiot last night," D'Antoni said after a light practice Tuesday in advance of the Lakers' Christmas Day showdown with the Miami Heat. "I was out of my mind. I was ticked off. We didn't play well and I said some stuff I shouldn't have. It was stupid. That's me, I just made a mistake." D'Antoni, who has guided L.A. to a 13-15 start despite major injuries to Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash, Steve Blake and Jordan Farmar, also attempted to clarify his postgame remarks.

At least he's aware enough to know that he's a short tempered idiot. Now, if only he had that level or self awareness when it concerns his coaching style and adjustments

Get Lost, Bro!

Merry Christmas Everyone!

I think somebody must have gotten on him for his comments. Alienating your fan base is never a good idea.

A fanbase that was always divided on him to begin with, then he goes and spews this nonsense. I'll be a laker fan long after this guy is gone, which can't come soon enough. He isn't responsible for all the laker problems, the GM has to eat some crow as well, but he's the BIGGEST problem by far and he has been for 2 years. The guy is completely clueless about coaching this laker unit

When do you think JimmyB will finally pull the plug and get rid of him?

Do you think maybe they will just ride out this season with him?

Where did they find that picture of Mike D'Antoni? The way he's been coaching and what's going on with the Lakers is no reason to smile.

But the man has been nothing but a con man as a coach. And Jim Buss bought the con.

i'd like to see him gone asap and someone else (anyone) given a chance. I think jimmy will ride it out the whole year though out of misguided pride.

that's his patented "my team is down by 20 points in the 3rd quarter, again" look.

I'm not a Heat fan but as league champions why do they have to travel to LA on Christmas Day?

I think they want to showcase LA and all the stars at the game on Christmas day. That adds to the attraction. If you see Jack Nicholson watching NBA on Christmas how can it not be OK for the rest of us?

There's a good coach out there that's waiting to be snatched! Hollins is there for the taking and if the Lakers management won't make their move soon to hire him than I guess they are pretty happy w/ Dumbtonie. Injuries and lack of players are not good enough reasons to keep him. We all know how he really coaches even w/ a full deck. Fire him now and move on!

Mike D'Antoni is not now and has never been ready for prime time... and that is what the Lakers are...prime time even with the pathetic lineup they have now. Injuries? Sure, but they have an ancient Steve Nash, an aging and injury prone Pau Gasol (who D'Antoni has done his best to disrespect) and two retreads (Farmar and Blake) who the Lakers let leave and are back. This shows how low the performance bar has fallen. There is only one person to blame for this mess and that is Buss-light. This is HIS team and HIS coach and is a prime example of how silver-spoon kids can ruin in a short while what his dad built for decades. The Lakers need to send Buss-light to run the D-League team (if they have one) and put his sister in charge of basketball operations. Jeanne, with Phil as GM can get this fixed.

Note: I just watched the Brooklyn Nets and came away wondering why Jason Kidd still has a gig. He is a disgrace as a HC. He lets his ego get in the way of basketball decisions. In his interview after the 3rd qtr (the Nets were down a ton) he said he was going to keep playing his bench until they get back in it. What? His bench looked like sh** and with Garnett and Deron Williams on the bench they were going to get back in it? What sense does that make?

Kidd is and has been in over his head all season. That was a horrible choice for head coach.
