07:25 AM ET 12.26 | LeBron James was watching when Kobe Bryant went down. "I saw exactly when it happened and I didn't think he was gong to return to that game when it happened, but he did, so I didn't think too much more about it until I saw the news the next day," James said. "There's a few guys in our league who can come back from anything, and obviously he's one of them." Bryant, who is expected to be sidelined with the injury for about six weeks, missed Wednesday's Christmas Day game against Miami, a 101-95 loss for the Lakers. James said that the league took a hit with Bryant's latest injury. "We understand how historic the franchise is and, the Lakers, what they mean to the league," James said. "When you take the best player of the franchise off their team, it speaks volumes. He's meant so much to the league since he got here."

Somebody needs to step in and protect Kobe from himself. Otherwise he is going to rush back again and reinjure himself while trying to prove something to his "doubters" again.

It might be time to retire bro. You have had a great career.

Kobe may be back, but the Kobe that Laker Nation is expecting has left the building......for good.

Nice one Jack! Good for you to realize reality.

Kobe can still be very productive and can still be a big factor for the Lakers but he really needs to help the Lakers out. Get yourself healthy and don't put too much pressure on the Lakers by telling them that you'll come back earlier than usual. Why are you trying to prove people wrong when all they want from you is to come back stronger? I don't really care if you come back early because it helps other teams other than the Lakers. Keep proving everybody wrong! Maybe he'll be back in 4 weeks. Kobe fans will have a very big celebration again.

Smart move would be to hang'em up, the MAMBA's and go live life....

Your body has taken a beating and since you started at such a young age...

Best to keep what you have intact...

Coming back from those injuries is not as simple as buying an expensive ring to Vanessa so she looks the other way.

Everyone has their 'price'. The NBA like other 'media professions' attract groupies of all sizes and flavors. It would take a 'saint' to resist such temptations.

Even rodeo cowboys have groupies for Pete's sake!

hmmmm nope he can't really "help out" Lakers on the court much. Yes he can help them sell jerseys and tickets, that's why he got that ridiculous Joe Johnsonish-contract. With him making that much money the next 2 years, Lakers cannot seek much help talent wise. So enjoy the mamba-show for 2 more years!

Mother nature is batting a thousand. The body only has so many miles contained within. Kobe is done.

That's correct. And he'll hang on to get his rebuilding choking contract too.

time will tell....
Towards the end of the season we should have a good idea of how the Mamba will do moving forward. If he keeps re-injuring himself, then you very well might be right. Hopefully he can stay healthy and play ball at high level. It's sucks to see any talented athlete end their career do injury.

December 26, 2013  04:50 PM ET

Sorry LeBron, even you can't control age!!! The only thing Kobe can do now is hang around and destroy any chances of the Lakers becoming competitive! Thank goodness for selfishness...

This, this, this. I knew d'antoni would allow him to play way too many minutes, too soon and it would lead to this. I don't even think kobe gets injured at all last year if D'antoni would have told him to slow down instead of just being an enabler.

He's not old and decrepit yet. He has to transform his game and start using his experience. If he can do that, Kobe Bryant is still a player you'd want to have on the floor.

I would still take Kobe over that flaming piece of **** (lebich). We who study the bible know that there are those who go to heaven, and there is lebron.
