On the block for Detroit?

07:42 AM ET 12.26 | As we left the Red Wings at the break, they were being booed off the ice at home, and things don't get much easier in the second half. The Red Wings have 24 road games left (against 19 home games). It'll be vital to maintain the road success they've had to this point. But with a California trip, two games each in Montreal and New York (Rangers), and singles in Pittsburgh, St. Louis, Chicago, Minnesota, Washington and Philadelphia, there are few gimmes out there. Trade possibilities: The NHL trade deadline is March 5, but will the Red Wings be able to do much? Teams will be asking for young players such as Riley Sheahan, Tomas Jurco and Petr Mrazek for the few quality rentals available, and general manager Ken Holland absolutely will not make those kind of deals.

Okay, well, then what are we talking about then, or why bother talking?

If they want Petr Mrazek so bad maybe the Wings should play him more themselves.

Good point. He's only played in 4 games, but he has a good GAA and a SP equal to Howard. Maybe they could get an offer for Howard?

Oh we got Nash, MDZ, Girardi, Pyatt, Pouliot and whom ever else you want to rent :)

Watching this flashy Tomas Jurco play I think he is going to be a real good player.

I wouldn't make those trades either. We'll just have to keep rearranging the chairs on the deck of this ship hoping it stays afloat long enough to make the playoffs.

Another article on there maybe news in the future. I guess these stories don't actually require any real journalistic ability to write.

Journalistic ability? An oxymoron if I've ever heard one.

Most of them have a couple of monkeys playing with a keyboard for their journalistic excellence.

Exactly....non story... I'd be highly surprised if Holland made a move that included any of those three players...why even put the story out there

Maybe kick tires on Sheahan, but not the other two, Tatar, Nyquist or Ouellet. Basically they'd be willing to hear offers for guys no one wants: Bert, Sammie, Cleary, Tootoo. If it were me, I'd float Ericsson and probably Smith, as he seems at this point to be more risk than reward; but the thing is they're probably looking back-end help, so they're not going to trade a D-man while looking to gain a D-man.

The defence isn't clearing players out, or, moving the puck well, anymore - I can see some big moves coming soon. Sadly, it's bit late though, Kenny (amazing that they're still in the hunt, even in the east) - could've gotten something for Brunner etc, etc - hard to get anything for the mule, Weiss, Howard or Cleary, now (wot with the injury factor, and the signing fiasco, and...) - I could see something like three of the above, and a draft pick, or a lesser d-man, for Weber and Bourque, though.

Yes, it's terrible that our down times are still playoff years--22 and counting. In this time of good will towards man, I'll pass along my sympathy to you that you've lost to this trainwreck twice already, with a 6-1 drubbing thrown in. Happty Holidays.

I like the fact that a lot of 1st year players are getting experience. And only nine points out of first in the division where the first place team would not be, in any of the other, stronger, divisions.

I don't think I'd bet the house on a player with 4 games under his belt. He has looked good and his numbers are great. Howard earned his way in, and that's the Detroit way for the most part. They prepare teams like nobody in the league does, and the loss of Lidstrom has had an impact but others have stepped up.....they just aren't Lidstrom.

The Wings had some bumps last year and then....went to the playoffs, fear not, as they will be fine after the loss at the Winter Classic. :)

I agree shipper...he's looked pretty good so far.
