07:21 AM ET 12.27 | Forgive Valeri Nichushkin for hoping the month doesn't end. The Stars' rookie winger has experienced the hottest streak of his young NHL career and has been called a potential superstar by Jaromir Jagr. That's a lot to handle for an 18-year-old from Chelyabinsk, Russia. ... [Jagr] told Tom Gulitti of The Record (Bergen County, NJ) that Nichushkin has the ability to be the best player in the world. Gulitti was asking Jagr about rookies, and Jagr volunteered that the one he was most impressed with watching on television was Nichushkin. "I saw like three games, he was a very good player the way he played," Jagr said. "Maybe it was his best three games I watched, but I said, 'This guy is going to be the best in the world one day.'"

Again would infer that they weren't up in arms about something before.

Nope. The Pens have had three of them over the years. Its time to share the wealth. Hope the kid stays healthy and lives up to his potential.

I understand Dallas being starved for a hockey star or two since Brett Hull and Mike Modano retired but, c'mon! The 'Next Best Player in the World?' Ridiculous! Premature expectations for a kid that hasn't proven anything yet.

that is an under statement.
Otis, hopefully my closet fandom of the Stars is not a jinx in 2014; but they are fun to watch.

This kid is good.

That's the beauty of the internet. He'll be able to order it online from Philly.

No.

Funny quip from Babe Laufenberg after seeing Jon Kitna at practice yesterday - "He looks like he's been playing Santa at a Tacoma mall". He's added a pound or two the last couple of years.

Yep.

He's 18. Let's not break out the anointing oil quite yet.

But - he's damn good.

There is a zero chance I acquire either, my friend.

You're on your own.

Agreed. And ... so is Peter Chiarelli's gift to you.

This Reilly Smith throw-in ain't so bad either.

I've seen him look really good, and then in some games he's looked kind of ordinary, to border-line lost. There are a lot of good young players that have come on the scene the last 78 or so games - the sad thing about most of them though - is how poorly they seem to be being coached on how to play defence properly, and properly take the man while checking. Sticks are literally flying these days - but it really isn't the most effective way to slow the other team's offence.
