Too late for Lucic

07:22 AM ET 12.27 | Once seemingly on the distant hockey horizon, the break is coming, which will mean either a vacation for many or a trip overseas for a number of elite players. With Jan. 7 set as the roster deadline for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, there is not much time remaining for Milan Lucic -- or any other Team Canada hopeful -- to impress the management team that will make the final decisions. It might be a little too late for Lucic to make a stand for a spot, though. The Bruins left winger started out hot, with seven goals and 13 points in the first 14 games of the season, continuing the production he had started in last season's playoffs and erasing the memories of his difficult 2012-13 regular season. But December has not been so kind to him, at least in terms of points. Lucic has just one goal in the month.

Too late for Lucic

Isn't that a Def Leppard song?

this is fine with me, i want the bruins to get as much rest as possible. The B's are looking at possibly a half dozen players representing their countries in the olympics, but they are going to need their legs for the stretch run, specifically Chara.

In that case, send Lucic too. ;)

I'm not sure about that Dave but he might have inspired "Two Steps Behind".

Concur. I'd love for Bergeron to not get picked to keep him rested as well. You know Krejci, Soderberg, Rask, Chara and Seidenberg are going to go.

Fortunately they don't play the Pens again, so that's a lot of cheap shots they don't have to worry about and need time to heal from.

Good point. Now they can follow the adage: It is more blessed to give than receive. Like they usually do.

He didn't make the cut in 2010, four years later he's older, and a lot slower. So nota chance.

Somebody told him Luke Gazdic is going to be there so he doesn't want to go. :-)

Heard about it/read about it, didn't see the brawl. Just the name, Luke Gazdic...scary.

Honestly, with the Laughs coming back down to earth, and citing the Pens tender and D issues, the ECF will go through Boston.....and that is coming from a fan of the Blueshirts.

it was a good fight, great tradeoff that night for edmonton, I think looch held his own, wasn't decisive in any way, shape or form.

i actually think sweden won't allow soderberg to join the olympic team due to the sh*tshow that occurred when he tried to join the bruins last season. Basically sour grapes.

Good, more time to practice with Smith and Spooner.

Lucic-Krejci-Iginla
Marchand-Bergeron-Eriksson
Soderberg-Spooner-Smith
Paille-Campbell/Kelly-Thornton/Reilly

Top to bottom, best lines in the league 1-4.

This leaves Caron out, but they might get a 2nd or 3rd rounder for him. Best goalie in the NHL as well.

take what you can get for caron...

find it strange they called up svedberg, considering he is a one way contract. It's got to mean that Johnson is going on waivers? right? Unless chiarelli is going to pull off another trade with svedberg involved, with a team wanting to see him at the nhl level before dealing...highly unlikely though in my opinion.

Imagine Lucic terrorizing a Sochi strip club!

Right now, Johnson's value is at it's highest. Maybe he pulled something off for a decent draft pick. Edmonton brought back Ilya, so goaltending is really thin right now. Florida, Nashville, and Edmonton are desperate for anything resembling NHL caliber goaltending.

Oh, and Hamilton and Paille returning today as well.
