Rangers keep Henrik Lundqvist on bench

09:25 AM ET 12.28 | The Rangers can't buy their way out of a goalie controversy this time. Alain Vigneault gave first-year netminder Cam Talbot his third consecutive start Friday night against the Capitals, marking the first time Henrik Lundqvist has sat three straight games for any reason since Dec. 17-21, 2006, when he was out with the flu. The last time he sat healthy for three straight games was Nov. 1-5, 2006, replaced by Kevin Weekes. In early December, when two straight Talbot starts drew speculation about Lundqvist's No. 1 status, Rangers GM Glen Sather responded promptly with an overdue, seven-year, $59.5 million contract extension that made Lundqvist the highest-paid goalie in the league beginning next season. On Friday, however, even Lundqvist couldn't argue with Vigneault's decision. The Rangers won two straight before the Christmas break with Talbot in goal, giving them eight wins in Talbot's 10 starts compared to 10 wins in Lundqvist's 27 starts -- a staggering split.

That last goal was a bad one, granted. Give Henrik a rest and he'll be ready for............the playoffs?....the driving range?

Actually I watched the AVs game last night, they kept showing Roy's face after every goal. I swear you could hear his teeth grinding in surround sound:)

He's got another son in trouble for attacking a player on the other team in Junior's, again.

Oh you are right no doubt about it, but in defense the Wings are playing a lot of kids who aren't allowed to even drink yet:). Half the problem....

His GAA so far this season is a half goal higher than his career avg.

That's quite the contract they handed out to Queen Henry. It sure is paying off. /s

Talbot has earned his starts, and King Henrik, who I respect, has played not up to par.

He will get back to form, but nothing wrong with having two goalies that will keep the team in the hunt. Nice to start a career like this formTalbot.
