07:32 AM ET 12.30 | With the NFL's regular season over, The Bill O'Brien Watch can officially begin. But there also are some indications that O'Brien's move back to the NFL isn't as certain as the reports would make one believe. The father of Christian Hackenberg, Penn State's star quarterback, told the Harrisburg Patriot-News Saturday night that his son and O'Brien had talked, and indicated there was no need to panic. "They had their own conversation," Erick Hackenberg said. "He asked Christian for it to stay between the two of them, so that's what's going to happen. He's talked to Bill, and we're comfortable with where it stands." Christian Hackenberg was the first player to commit after O'Brien took over in January 2012, and kept his promise despite the imposition of harsh NCAA sanctions.

Bill's not saying what needs to be said to preserve his present situation in the absence of a firm, lucrative NFL HC offer. No. He's let a recruit know on the QT that he's committed to PSU no matter what NFL gig is dangled before him.

I think O'Brien stays at PSU for another year or 2. His family situation is a big factor.

Ha! Now that was good. Thanks for the morning laugh.

It's a bit odd to be in the offseason and not be thinking about new coaching possibilities or if UTK's coach is on the hot seat. It's been a long time since I've not had one of those two thoughts.

Too funny. Two can keep a secret as long as one of them is no more. Tell anybody anything and you have told everybody....

There are 5 head coaching opportunities in the NFL so far, now is a good time for O'B to grab his dream job.

Figure Bobby Petrino will be the Texans or Texas new coach.
